Last month, SCI Material Solutions was honored to co-sponsor the "Gear for Kids" event at the Children's Institute, organized by our friends Haworth. It was such a fun and fulfilling experience to volunteer alongside industry friends to build and decorate bikes for kids in the community. This year, the kids joined in on lending a hand which made it even more meaningful! We are already looking forward to next year's event! #childrensinstitute #scimaterials #scilights #gearforkids #community #flashbackfriday

关于我们
Children's Institute was founded in 1906 and has been serving the Los Angeles community for more than 100 years. Children's Institute works primarily in communities impacted by decades of underinvestment including Echo Park, Watts, Compton, and Long Beach. Children's Institute supports 30,000 children and families annually in achieving emotional well-being and educational success, which build pathways to economic mobility and lifelong health. Our highly qualified and compassionate teachers, therapists, and care coordinators are the cornerstone of our work. We are fortunate to witness the many wins that families experience through our programs and services, from the "aha"! moments in the classroom to the breakthroughs in counseling sessions. It would not be possible without the care and expertise staff bring to their roles and the confidence they inspire in the people they support. Today is #WorldChildrensDay and we want to bring attention to children everywhere. Child rights are human rights. They are non-negotiable and universal but across the globe, children’s rights are being disregarded and threatened. At Children's Institute, serving children is of utmost importance to us and we understand the importance of investing in today’s children, as they are our future. To learn more about Children's Institute, the life-changing work we do or to make an impact locally, here in Los Angeles, visit our website today: https://lnkd.in/gNHgbUrx #WorldChildrensDay #NonProfit

Here's a glimpse of what our Early Childhood Education department experienced at their annual retreat! This year's focus was on the nine dimensions of wellness which included a time & space to bond with rescue puppies, getting massages & haircuts, doing yoga and most importantly, sharing laughter, meals and memories together. "This was the first year we offered a wellness-focused event and it was wonderful to see staff take time out of their busy schedule to connect and enjoy all there was to offer throughout the event," said Dalila Rodriguez Alegria, our Director of Education & Home Visitation. We hope all of our ECE staff felt the love and appreciation because that's exactly what we wanted to convey - we love and appreciate all of our early childhood educators & staff! Thank you to everyone who made this event a success including Dr. Desmonette Hazly MA, MSW, PhD, Pups Without Borders, the Beehive by SoLa Impact, @Two Dreams On Wheels and many more! #WellnessDay #EarlyChildhoodEducation #RescuePups #Educators #Education #ChildrensInstitute #NonProfit

We recently met with Ana B. Ibarra, Health Reporter at CalMatters, to better understand critical health issues impacting everyday Californians. Ana is an exceptional reporter who recently helped slow the closure of California's maternity wards through her reporting. Read the interview we had with Ana to become more familiar with her and her stories. CalMatters is a nonpartisan and nonprofit news organization bringing Californians stories that probe, explain and explore solutions to quality-of-life issues while holding our leaders accountable.

Earlier today, our President & CEO, Martine Singer, attended California Council of Community Behavioral Health Agencies (CBHA)'s "Whole System Care" Conference and met its keynote speaker, former U.S. Representative Patrick J. Kennedy. https://lnkd.in/gPxFRnAt Kennedy is an advocate for mental health and has been a driving force in ensuring mental health and substance use disorders are treated with the same priority as physical health. During his time in Congress, he co-authored the landmark Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (Federal Parity Law), which requires insurers to cover treatment for mental health and substance use disorders no more restrictively than treatment for illnesses of the body, such as diabetes and cancer. Kennedy also founded The Kennedy Forum, a nonprofit that unites advocates, business leaders, and government agencies to advance evidence-based practices, policies and programming in mental health and addiction.
