March is #NationalReadingMonth ?? and here at Children's Hospital of Michigan we know how important reading is to a child's growth and development. To kickoff celebrations, Children's Hospital of Michigan CEO Archie Drake, took some time to read to the students at Detroit Public Schools Spain Elementary School to stress the importance of reading to kids. Archie read a variety of books including some that were handpicked by the class of students. Then at the hospital, our friends at D.O. it for Denny, stopped by and hosted a book fair in our lobby where patients could pick from a variety of books that focused on inclusion and provided options of books in multiple languages. D.O. it for Denny is a non-profit organization that uses monthly kindness projects to find ways to D.O. Good. It’s a great reminder that reading to children is a very important part of a healthy lifestyle ??

Yesterday was anything but blue as we celebrated 17-month-old Thomas (or "Tommy" as his family calls him) as he and his parents walked out of the hospital to the Bluey theme song after spending over 500 days at Children's Hospital of Michigan. Tommy was born with cardiomyopathy, a condition where the heart muscle becomes weakened or thickened, affecting its ability to pump blood effectively. At just 3 days old, he was admitted to our hospital and our team immediately began treating his symptoms and complications while he waited for a new heart. Wishes came true as Tommy underwent his #HeartTransplant surgery last month. His transplant was a success, and yesterday we held a clap out celebration as Tommy's family, doctors, nurses and other team members cheered them on as they went home ??
