Smooth transitions for youth in foster care are essential, but rarely guaranteed. Unfortunately, for too many young people, a move to a new home means packing their belongings into black trash bags. At the end of 2023, there were 6,337 children in foster care in New York City. Children's Aid remains committed to supporting youth who are experiencing changes in their foster care placements with empathy and compassion. This includes providing them with more permanent luggage options like suitcases and duffel bags. Nonprofits are the backbone of New York City, often stepping in as first responders to challenges like food insecurity, affordable housing, and childcare. Yet their contributions are often overshadowed by challenges like chronic underfunding and delayed city payments. Children’s Aid President & CEO Phoebe Boyer’s letter in Crain’s highlights the need for cross-sector collaboration and fair funding practices to allow nonprofits to support New Yorkers effectively. Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient city. Subscribers to Crain’s New York can read Phoebe’s full letter to the editor here: https://lnkd.in/efkaq6jq #ChildrensAidNYC #Nonprofits #NonProfitLeadership #Collaboration #CrainsNY

The outcome of this presidential election is not the result many of us envisioned. While we are still coming to terms with what these results mean for us, our families, our communities and our futures, it’s okay to take time to process our emotions before we forge a new path forward. At the same time, we are reminded that we must always remain vigilant and committed to safeguarding our children’s futures. Crucial issues including accessible and affordable child care, funding for Head Start programs and school safety measures are at risk. The nonprofit community supporting children and families across New York will lead the way in advocating for the people we serve – now more than ever. In the coming months, we must continue to fight for the issues that matter most. Now is not the time to back down on our promises. At Children's Aid, we are reinvigorating our commitments and doubling down our efforts to provide for our students and families. We’ll continue to be right there with you, every step of the way.
