Last summer, 11-year-old Landon presented with persistent hip pain initially attributed to "growing pains." However, an MRI revealed abnormal cells and bone lesions, leading to a diagnosis of stage 4 Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. After starting treatment at Children’s National, Landon and his family faced this difficult journey with hope and determination. Five months and six rounds of chemotherapy later, Landon proudly rang the bell in May. Now, as he begins 7th grade, Landon is back to playing soccer and embracing life. We’re amazed by the bravery of the patients and families we serve, and grateful for all our team members providing the highest quality care available in the fight against childhood cancer.

Dr. Nathan Kuppermann wears many hats: executive vice president, chief academic officer, chair of Pediatrics, global health leader, husband, father and point guard. As he joins the faculty at Children’s National, he shares his experience and vision for advancing pediatric health in the Washington area—and beyond.

At age 9,?Jackson’s sports-filled life came to a crashing halt when he lost his ability to walk, talk and eat on his own. He was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease called anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, which causes the body to attack the brain. ? After years of physical, occupational and speech therapies at Children's National Hospital, he relearned his fine motor skills and keeps pursuing his athletic dreams. Now he volunteers with the doctors and physical therapists that helped him heal and plans to run the Race for Every Child once again in their honor. ?
