What a heartwarming evening we had on Friday! Children with Diabetes proudly hosted the fourth annual President’s Award for Innovation, and it was a true celebration of passion and progress in the world of diabetes care. We were thrilled to honor the incredible Professor chantal mathieu, a shining star in the field of medicine. As a Professor of Medicine at the Katholieke Universiteit and Chair of Endocrinology at the University Hospital Gasthuisberg in Leuven, Belgium, her dedication to advancing our understanding of diabetes is truly inspiring. Professor Mathieu’s groundbreaking research is not only focused on the pathogenesis and prevention of type 1 diabetes but also on innovative treatments that bring hope and better care to those living with diabetes. As the president of EASD and vice president of the European Diabetes Forum, her influence is felt far and wide. A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful partners, Dexcom, Sanofi, and MannKind Corporation for their unwavering support in making this special evening possible. Alongside a full day of engaging sessions at Advanced Technologies & Treatments for Diabetes (ATTD) 2025 Amsterdam, the Children with Diabetes team hosted our first event of the week in collaboration with our friends at GDAN (Global Diabetes Advocacy Network). Held at the elegant Serre restaurant at Hotel Okura Amsterdam, this special luncheon introduced members of the global diabetes community to GDAN’s mission. We also had the privilege of celebrating milestones in life with diabetes, presenting CWD Journey Awards to attendees who have lived with diabetes for 10, 25, 50, or 75 years. Beyond the delicious food and exceptional service, the most meaningful part of the afternoon was the connections made—conversations that continued well past the final course. Hormonal changes are common throughout the lifespan. Puberty is typically humans' first major hormonal shift in early adolescence. This shift causes all kinds of changes, which impact diabetes management quite significantly. Another very common hormonal shift is menopause, which occurs in people with a uterus.
