“We have to fund work like we want it to exist forever, because if we do not, we will lose grounds.” Ramatu Bangura, Social Justice Strategist and Executive Director of CRIF, issues a stark reminder: the urgency is undeniable - fund young people whose activism is forged in lived injustice, or risk silencing the very voices pushing radical change forward. Young people don’t need permission to change the world - they need the power and resources to do it on their own terms. Restrictive funding and barriers only uphold the status quo. It’s time to shift power, dismantle structural oppressions, and trust young leaders to drive the change they know is necessary. #What'sPossible #WeTrustYouth We Trust You(th) Initiative Gabrielle Bailey Purposeful

Mariana Reyes Ledezma, like many youth activist leaders challenging traditional funding structures, has a powerful message for donors and partners. Are you ready to rethink power? To fund young people in ways that truly honor their leadership? Stay in touch ?? https://lnkd.in/d7ZXYrek We Trust You(th) Initiative Purposeful

??Almost a year ago in February 2024, we launched What’s Possible - an Experiential Pooled Fund and Donor Learning Community- bringing together over twelve donors to reimagine philanthropy by following young people’s lead. Over the past year, we have witnessed donors lean into the challenge of #shifting power, not as a symbolic effort but as a lived practice. They have navigated the tensions of letting go, embraced an active reset, and moved resources in ways that honor young people’s autonomy. In return, young organizers and leaders have not only distributed grants to their peers across the globe but have also redefined what true partnership looks like. Shifting power is not a one-time event. It is an ongoing commitment, a practice of trust, and a radical reimagining of how change happens. The journey continues????. #What’sPossible We Trust You(th) Initiative Purposeful African Women's Development Fund (AWDF) Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) Disability Rights Fund Echidna Giving Elevate Children Funders Group EngenderHealth Fondation Botnar Girls First Fund Global Fund for Children Global Fund for Women William and Flora Hewlett Foundation Ignite Philanthropy Planned Parenthood Great Northwest, Hawai'i, Alaska, Indiana, Kentucky

...As the Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Care Act hangs in the balance, we continue to advocate for justice, calling on the government to prioritise Sierra Leone’s women, and closing in on the far right extremists at home and in the US attempting to decimate our rights. Women’s health issues should simply not be up for debate, and the bill is not only an answer to a health crisis, it’s a political and moral imperative." Read & share the full Guardian article:
The Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Care bill being debated would see a "deadly centuries-old British colonial law abolished and monumental strides made to protect the safety of women and girls... ...Yet we are also seeing an all too familiar pattern emerge from within the corridors of power. The state’s duty to protect half of our population is being met with backlash from the Inter-Religious Council of Sierra Leone (IRCSL) – the archbishop, influential Christian and Muslim clergy, and representatives from the country’s megachurches – forcing parliamentarians to grapple with one of the most critical human rights issues... It is the exact same far right fundamentalist religious lawfare targeting and tactics that have been ripping across the continent – well financed and tightly orchestrated – masquerading as “family values”. ...As the act hangs in the balance, we continue to advocate for justice, calling on the government to prioritise Sierra Leone’s women, and closing in on the far right extremists at home and in the US attempting to decimate our rights. Women’s health issues should simply not be up for debate, and the bill is not only an answer to a health crisis, it’s a political and moral imperative."
