  • No matter how you cut it, all kids have a legal right to public education. Most public schools rely on different types of federally-distributed funding to ensure kids can access a proper education. ?? IDEA funding helps schools meet the needs of students with disabilities ??Title I funding ensures schools with high percentages of low-income students can still provide quality education For decades, the U.S. Department of Education has distributed this vital funding and played a crucial role in protecting the educational rights of youth. As of the time of this post, that still stands. Learn more in CLC’s 2/11/2025 article, “Education Without Barriers: Why the Federal Government Matters for Every Child’s Education Access.” Read the article here: https://bit.ly/4gClTj2

  • Federal data shows a record-breaking 7.5 million students received special education services in the 2022-23 school year. "[P]arents should not be their child's only advocate in education, but that's often how it ends up.” In this interview, Selene Alamzan, Legal Director at the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, discusses protecting children’s educational rights nationwide. Listen at https://bit.ly/4iFbIvN. In Ohio and Kentucky, CLC is proud to help kids access education with appropriate developmental, social, behavioral, and academic support.

  • Last week, we shared about CLC's policy advocacy. Another key part of CLC’s mission? Community education! We’re dedicated to equipping legal professionals with the tools they need to provide compassionate, trauma-informed representation for kids. Just yesterday, our Lexington Director, Cory Dodds, led a training for 25 members of the McCracken County Bar Association, focusing on how to advocate for child victims of crime as GALs. When we educate attorneys, we create a stronger, more supportive legal system for kids in need. ???? We've got more FREE, virtual training opportunities coming up next week for Kentucky attorneys. • "[Young people] deserve systems that advance justice that's imbued with human rights and dignity." Policy advocacy is an important part of CLC's work. One key way we do this is by talking to elected officials about how their decisions impact youths' rights, health, and safety. Check out our Executive Director, Sasha Naiman, as she testifies before the Ohio General Assembly's Public Safety Committee—urging strategic investments in the new budget cycle that advance justice and treat kids like kids. ?? https://bit.ly/3FqaQgh

  • ?? A huge THANK YOU to the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) Foundation for their continued support of CLC’s mission! ?? With AAML’s generosity, we’re able to provide critical legal representation for children involved in high-conflict custody battles, neglect and abuse cases, protection orders, and more. Their support helps us protect kids' best interests and reduce the trauma of complex legal proceedings. We were honored to welcome Representative Stephanie Dietz and Mark Ogle from AAML as they presented the grant to CLC’s Nick Caprino and Sydney Pepper—a powerful reminder that together, we can make a difference for kids.
