On the final day of #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth, we recognize the significance of the Violence Against Women Act of 1994. We also know firsthand from helping our client families that there is still much work to be done. Did you know that CAC's #SafeFromTheStart program provides free services for children ages birth to 5 years who have experienced violence in their homes? For more information, visit https://lnkd.in/gxgV9VTc.
REPOST?? Violence Against Women Act of 1994 (VAWA) is a federal law signed 30 years ago. VAWA grants provide transitional housing and victim support services and improve criminal justice responses to violence against women. Let's walk through VAWA’s history: ??Bill’s Introduction (1994) ??Act’s Passage (9/13/1994) ??Act’s Funding Threatened (1995) ??Supreme Court ruled VAWA provision unconstitutional (2000) ??Act Reauthorized (2000 & 2005) ??Act’s Renewal Opposed (2012) ??Act Reauthorized - Post opposition (2013) ??Act Expired (2018) ??Act [quickly] Reinstated (2019) ??Act Reauthorized w/ equity & firearm provisions (2019) ??Act Reauthorized (2022) Like women the Act protects, VAWA persists. To survivors who either do not have a voice or are no longer here, we honor you! And the work continues. #VAWA is #30Years. ??

Rotary Club of Schaumburg Hoffman Estates volunteers are amazing! CAC is so thankful for Rotary's support given through #timeandtalent of people, along with financial gifts. We love our #CommunityPartners! Rotary garden liaison Eileen shares, "On October 12 we put the garden to bed for the year. Our mighty Butterfly Buddies included Rotarians Mary, Jeanne, Jeff, Jack, Jim, Bonnie and Eileen. We were joined by Fishing Well students Marisol and Ayuna and our own “Garden Granny” Fern. It was a great year keeping this special garden of healing and peace blooming for the children and families cared for at the CAC. Thank you, CAC, for everything you do, and we are grateful to all of the people who volunteered this year!!!"

#infantsafesleepawarenessmonth CAC joins #illinoisdcfs in promoting the ABCs of safe sleep for babies. Most sleep-related deaths occur when infants are between 1 and 4 months old, and 90% occur before an infant reaches 6 months of age. In 2023, 106 infants in Illinois under the age of 1 died as a result of being put to sleep unsafely, including 36 in Cook County (Illinois DCFS press release, 10.1.24). #CAChelps #CommunityResource
