On 21 January, amid scenes of chaos, the Iraqi Parliament approved a controversial amendment to the 1959 Personal Status Law, which would allow clerics to rule in family matters, including marriage.?This could eventually lead to #ChildMarriage for girls as young as 9. NEPAL: Today, the Prime Minister of Nepal, KP Sharma Oli has launched the #ChildMarriageFreeNepal campaign, alongside civil society and survivors of child marriage. The campaign will be delivered by the national, provincial, and local governments, supported by civil society organisations Just Rights for Children Nepal and BASE Nepal. Nepal has made enormous efforts to #EndChildMarriage, and we believe that the new Child Marriage Free Nepal campaign will accelerate an end to this injustice, and enable every child to receive their rights to education and freedom. https://lnkd.in/eKaWieu3 #ChildMarriageFreeWorld

In Malawi, two different community organisations worked through sport with children and young people to raise awareness of the negative impacts of child marriage. Ulalo Youth Club in Liwonde and the Centre for Children in Distress in Lilongwe held football and netball games as part of their #ChildMarriageFreeWorld campaign activities, with more than 400 children taking the pledge to #EndChildMarriage in total! #RightsNotRings

Community organisations in Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Cameroon have been working with children who have been displaced by conflict and climate disaster to raise awareness about child marriage, as part of the #ChildMarriageFreeWorld campaign. In Liberia last week, child marriage survivors and campaigners marched to Parliament to call for an end to child marriage! Co-ordinated by the Our Children Assistance Program In Development and 100 Million Liberia, the event was one of a series of activities, with other events throughout the week engaging different communities and members of parliament to push for stronger action against child marriage. #ChildMarriageFreeWorld #EndChildMarriage #RightsNotRings

Child Marriage Free World: A Conversation With Payzee Mahmod Over the next two weeks, we're excited to announce that we will be hosting a series of international dialogues with activists and experts on #ChildMarriage, in partnership with 100 Million US! At 3pm GMT today, we'll be LIVE with Payzee Mahmod, a child marriage survivor and a passionate activist to end gender-based violence. In addition to her own lived-experience, Payzee also suffered the loss of her sister in a so-called 'honour killing', after she left her own child marriage. Payzee also lead the 3-year-long campaign to end child marriage in England and Wales, which resulted in the Marriage and Civil Partnership (Minimum Age) Bill in 2023.
