  • Mobile health (mHealth) autism screening tools have the potential to enhance early access to ASD care; however, low-income and minority families encounter obstacles in utilizing this technology. The “Assessing Usability of mHealth Autism Screening Tools for the Medically Underserved” project focuses on evaluating current mHealth autism screening tools by gathering user data from low-income and minority parents and community providers to gain insights into usage barriers. Additionally, interviews are being conducted with developers of screening tools to establish guidelines for mHealth autism screening tools that cater to the needs of underserved families and populations. • Did you know mental health challenges account for 16% of diseases and injuries in teens aged 10 to 19? Even more alarming, many of these struggles start as early as 14 and, if left unaddressed, can lead to long-term issues like substance abuse, depression, or worse. With suicide being one of the leading causes of death in this age group, the stakes couldn’t be higher. This is why early intervention matters so much. By addressing mental health issues sooner, we can help prevent escalation and give teens the tools they need to thrive. On days like World Teen Mental Wellness Day, we shine a light on the importance of these conversations. Breaking the stigma and encouraging teens to seek help can make a world of difference. How can we, as a community, better support teen mental health? Share your thoughts below. Together, we can create a future where no teen faces their struggles alone. #MentalHealthAwareness #TeenMentalWellness #WorldTeenMentalWellnessDay

  • Climate change is reshaping the world around us, affecting everyone—but not equally. Children, people of color, and lower-income communities bear the brunt, facing dire health outcomes and fewer resources to tackle these challenges. Yet, major healthcare bodies like the National Academy of Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics have not fully addressed climate change in their reports on child poverty. It's time to act. By recognizing climate change as a key social determinant of health, we open doors for multidisciplinary collaboration to mitigate its impact on health and other social factors. Healthcare professionals, you have the power to lead this change. Join us in integrating climate-conscious practices within pediatric healthcare. Doing so can reduce costs, slash carbon emissions, and profoundly improve children's health now and in the future. Together, we can support the most vulnerable and pave the way for a healthier planet. Take action today for a sustainable tomorrow. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/guFMwTBP #Impact #PositiveChange

  • Meg Parker, MD, MPH, is making significant strides in the field of Neonatal Health Services to combat disparities in care for preterm infants—one of the most vulnerable patient groups. With approximately 10% of infants in the US being born prematurely, the issue is growing. These infants face numerous medical and social challenges, including higher rates of mortality and long-term developmental issues. Dr. Parker's work focuses on identifying and developing effective interventions to tackle income and racial disparities that affect the morbidity, mortality, and quality of care for these infants. Her research addresses critical issues like racism, environmental exposures, and adverse social determinants impacting families with infants in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). She aims to pave the way toward health equity, ensuring better outcomes for all preterm infants. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/dU3yuwJY #HealthEquity #ChildEquity #Pediatrics #Research #Impact

  • Food is Medicine programs in Massachusetts not only promote optimal health but also have a significant economic impact. By participating in the Medicaid 1115 Demonstration Waiver, Massachusetts can expand Medicaid eligibility and implement supportive programs and services. This waiver is essential for piloting food-based initiatives that reduce food insecurity among Medicaid recipients. Furthermore, by targeting low-income populations with higher rates of chronic diseases, the initiative helps reduce healthcare costs and fosters a more equitable health system. This approach not only improves individual well-being but also alleviates the financial burden on the state's healthcare system. • Redlining maps has historically led to systemic racism and discrimination through public policies. To address these injustices, we must focus on supporting areas previously affected by redlining. Policymakers and community leaders play a crucial role in this effort. It's essential to aim for increased homeownership among low-income and marginalized communities and work to remove the geographic impacts of historic discrimination. Our society's disparities will persist only if we allow them to. Let's commit to creating equitable opportunities for all.
