We’re proud to be a part of the #iCare movement this October in support of Harmony House and survivors of domestic violence. Children were witnesses in 1 of 4 intimate partner violence cases filed in state courts. These children can be traumatized by these violent experiences, but with adults that care and provide guidance, attention, and support can help them heal. At the Child Advocacy Center, we work in partnership to connect our families and children with mental health resources at absolutely no cost.

Join our team! We are hiring a Prevention Education Specialist. The Prevention Education Specialist plays a crucial role in preventing child abuse, raising awareness, and educating our community through school and community-based presentations on child abuse and violence prevention topics. A successful Prevention Education Specialist can interact with a range of audiences, including school professionals, parents, and children of preschool through high school age in a manner that reflects the mission and values of the CAC. October means it’s ChildFirst Missouri week in our state! My favorite time of year!! ????Today we kicked off Day 2 training MDT from Law Enforcement, Childrens Division, CAC Advocates & Forensic Interviewers, Prosecutors, medical and more. These professionals are so engaged and ready to learn, it’s gonna be a great week! How can you help stand up against bullying? Be kind. Be someone who stands up for yourself and others, befriends the bullied, and shows empathy toward others. Helping students recognize healthy vs. unhealthy relationship characteristics is one way The Child Advocacy Center decreases bullying in our schools through prevention education.

Did you know that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month? Children can be affected by domestic violence. Some children learn destructive lessons about the use of violence and power in relationships, that it is acceptable to exert control or relieve stress by using violence, or that violence is in some way linked to expressions of intimacy and affection. These lessons can negatively affect children's social situations and relationships throughout childhood and later life. When we see a child who has been witness to domestic violence, the Child Advocacy Center provides support, assistance, and advocacy through every step of the child’s case, from the moment they enter our center until the family no longer needs our help.
