For transit operators, the impact is even more direct — studies show elevated rates of urinary tract infections among drivers who can't access bathrooms during their routes and impacted job satisfaction. When LA Metro introduced better bathrooms, 95 percent of operators reported being “happier at work” due to the elevated facilities."

Not everyone has a picture of the moment their life changed inextricably. The picture below is the day our family's migration from Iran to the United States began (I'm the kid in the red shirt, bottom right). We got on a bus and left our home and everything we owned behind. My father made the decision shortly after his brother was murdered by religious extremists and it became clear as Christian minorities we had no real future there. After crossing numerous borders we finally arrived in the US, almost 2 years after we left, as refugees seeking asylum. We were welcomed with open arms and began the process of becoming citizens. My father always talked about how if not for the willingness of the US government to take us in, we'd have been living much different lives in our home country so it was important we always gave back whenever we could so we could show our appreciation for the chance to achieve the American dream. Because of what he instilled in me and my siblings, I got involved in community empowerment and grassroots organizing and eventually got a job working at the City of Los Angeles...and after 17 years in public service I left and founded Chief Strategies where we take on at least 1-2 pro bono community orientated clients every year to ensure we're giving back. My father passed away on October 18th, just 9 days ago, and as my family has mourned his passing we've also spent time going through our pictures and sharing stories of how we got to where we are. Ultimately, it all comes back to the moment in this picture, my father leading us to a new home where we could achieve the American dream. Cohen hopes to integrate Bicycle Transit Systems' bike-share stations into cities' electrical grids to bring down the cost of high-demand e-bikes, which she called "the greatest thing to happen in bike-share." The new integrated model will give American cities another option to Lyft's bike-share product — one that Bicycle Transit founder Alison Cohen believes will be a more "nimble" and cost-effective alternative with fewer middlemen. https://lnkd.in/gnSarccs
