Continuing education and refresher training are essential duties of a CEI inspector. Today, an Environmental Training class was conducted, emphasizing Erosion & Sediment Control, Permits and Permit Plans, and NPDES Reports. This class resulted from a collaborative effort between the Roadside Environmental Unit, Project Development & Environmental Analysis, and the Assistant Area Construction Engineer. ????♂? ??

A bridge structure member is the parapet, or vertical concrete barrier rail, shown here being poured using a slip-form machine. Technicians from Chicora PLLC, representing the NCDOT reviewed the concrete documentation to ensure the approved and proper mix design was delivered. They performed tests, including checking air content via air pot and chase indicator methods, and slump checks. Additionally, they made molds for concrete samples to be tested for strength in a controlled lab environment.

Public Notice: The initial barricades (identified by red arrows) on the highway shoulder enable access for local residents and businesses between the intersection and road closure. The placement of barricades on the sides, rather than in travel lanes, does not signify the road is open or safe for travel. Three preceding signs – 'ROAD CLOSED AHEAD', 'ROAD CLOSED 1000FT', and 'ROAD CLOSED 500FT' – clearly indicate the closure. For safety, please turn around and avoid hazardous conditions.

Just because floodwaters have subsided does not mean the highway is safe for travel. Barricades should not be moved to go around, as post-storm inspections and assessments are conducted to ensure the safety of roadways, bridge structures, and culverts. For your safety and the safety of NCDOT personnel and contractors, please turn around. ???????????♂? ??

After piles are driven to bearing specified in the criteria you may have to remove excess. After shooting your benchmark and some quick math, you then will find the planned elevation on your pile where the cut needs to be made. The inspector will subtract the “cutoffs” from the total length of the pile to know how many linear feet to pay the contractor.
