The Chicano Federation was established in 1969 to provide a variety of comprehensive, neighborhood-based services to a large and diverse population. Our mission is to provide empowering opportunities for our diverse community. In its early years, the Federation was led by a tireless group of advocates dedicated to seeing advances in civil rights and civic participation. Today, those strong roots empower the Chicano Federation to serve diverse populations throughout San Diego County with programs that help low-income children and families access vital and often life-changing services. Chicano Federation programs and services include subsidized care for infants and toddlers, early childhood education at a preschool in Barrio Logan, subsidized meals for over 5,000 children a month, and 300 units of affordable housing at nine apartment buildings in Barrio Logan, City Heights, and South Park neighborhoods of San Diego.

We are so excited to welcome our new Director of Advocacy and Community Organizing, Jimmy Figueroa here at Chicano Federation. He?is a lifelong San Diego County resident. Born and raised in Oceanside, CA and son of Mexican immigrants, his personal journey has shaped a deep commitment to empowering underserved communities. For over a decade, Jimmy has been a steadfast advocate for working-class families, neighborhood revitalization, and expanded opportunities for youth. His leadership has been instrumental in securing improved public transit access, mentoring at-risk youth, developing reentry programs for our formerly incarcerated community, strengthening access to higher education, and directing a local homeless shelter—efforts that have directly impacted the well-being of San Diego County residents. With a background in community development, policy advocacy, non-profit leadership, and social services, Jimmy understands the intersection of public policy and grassroots action.?

On the one-year anniversary of the devastating floods that displaced over 70 residents from one of our properties. We want to thank everyone who supported our recovery efforts. Community partners, such as DPR Construction continue to make an impact on the lives of our residents. Today, they initiated a volunteer project to beautify our affordable housing property.
