Don’t you just love when a plan comes together? ??????? About a month ago I served as the planning Chair for the 2025 EIEP Black History Month Celebration dinner centered on the theme of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Empowerment. Led by our keynote, Dean Lola Eniola-Adefeso, PhD, FAHA, FAIMBE, FBMES, FCRS,NAI, we established our space by recognizing the social, professional, and economic benefits of increasing the percentage of Black and women engineers in today’s workforce. Following the Dean’s presentation, we heard from an outstanding panel of Black entrepreneurs in engineering and technology. Our panelists included: · Michael Charles, Undergraduate Comp. Sci. student and Co-Creator of Akknoledge ·? Benita M., President of the National Society of Black Engineers - Chicago Professionals Chapter ·??Anthony Greer HDI-SCTL?, IT Professional and Owner of Classic Synergy Media & Technology Services LLC ·??Melanie Mosley, President Emerita of the National Society of Black Engineers - Chicago Professionals and Chief Technical Officer of Adezu Inc. I continue to be inspired by the thread of community and mentorship that each of our panelists discussed; we are stronger together. I have immense gratitude for this year's partner organizations. Thank you to the UIC Makerspace for creating our custom BHM 2025 photo frames, to Vistabooth for capturing amazing memories, to the Black Students In Business at UIC for connecting our engineering students to entrepreneurship resources, and to the Engineering Career Center for co-hosting our workshop, Level Up: Perfecting Your Elevator Pitch! Finally, a HUGE thank you to the students of the NSBE UIC Chapter for showing up and showing out across all our 2025 BHM programming. Our chapter developed core connections during the BHM Celebration dinner, served as peer educators by demonstrating their elevator pitches to our Level Up participants, and led our Salute to Black Scholarship social media series! Without our students, none of this work is possible; I am so excited to see how they continue to innovate and empower in the field of engineering.

Chicago NSBE made a powerful impact at #NSBEGOLD! As we celebrate 50 years of excellence, our chapter was everywhere—volunteering, recruiting, hosting workshops, building meaningful connections, and leading at every level of NSBE. To kick off the convention, we hosted our NSBE Legends Pregame, a networking event where our chapter had the opportunity to connect with recognized NSBE Legends. We were also honored to collaborate with Project SYNCERE & Milhouse Charities to deploy 43 engineering professionals across 16 schools to engage 800+ students in career panels, hands on workshops, +more! To top it all off, we *kept* home three regional awards—PCI Program of the Year, College Initiative Program of the Year, and Chapter of the Year—along with one national award, College Initiative Program of the Year. That’s a wrap on NSBE’s 50th Annual Convention in Chicago! ?? It’s been an incredible experience reconnecting with students from my alma mater, catching up with mentees, and making new connections ?? Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of wearing several hats at NSBE—from recruiting for GE Aerospace and Purdue College of Engineering to now serving on the Region 4 Professionals E-Board as Talent Development Chair. Through it all, one thing remains the same: the joy of giving back and supporting the next generation of Black engineers. ? This past week was nothing short of amazing! ? Celebrating 50 years of NSBE at the Annual Convention held right here in Chicago was truly monumental. I had the opportunity to connect with my alma mater, SIUE’s NSBE chapter?? and was inspired by how they continue to excel. I also reconnected with old college friends, former colleagues, and made some incredible new connections ??—including with my current colleagues. This year, I had the honor of serving as a delegate for our chapter, playing a key role in casting votes ??? for the next leaders of NSBE Professionals—an eye-opening and impactful experience. And to top it all off, our chapter National Society of Black Engineers - Chicago Professionals brought home FOUR awards! ???????? NSBE is home to me and holds a special place in my heart ??. Convention always reignites my passion to Inspire, Excel, and Impact ??. I had an unforgettable time this year and can’t wait to do it all again next year in Baltimore!
