This week, the Commission on Chicago Landmarks received reports on two recently completed restoration projects supported by DPD's Adopt-a-Landmark Fund. The approximately $1 million masonry and roof repair project at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Grand Boulevard was made possible by a $900,000 landmark grant. Designed by Dankmar Adler and built as a synagogue at 4501 S. Vincennes Ave.?in 1899, the church became home to the Ebenezer congregation in 1921. The building is considered the birthplace of the earliest modern gospel choir in the country. The $350,000 window restoration project at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in West Town was supported by a $250,000 landmark grant. Designed by Worthmann and Steinbach with prominent onion domes and a blend of religious architectural styles, the building has stood at 835 N. Carpenter St. since 1915. The work completely restored the building's 18-foot-wide rose window. Adopt-A-Landmark grants are funded by voluntary fees paid by downtown construction projects through the Neighborhood Opportunity Bonus system.

Thanks to the 150+ North Lawndale residents who attended last night's "Missing Middle" open house to learn about the two-, three- and four-flat buildings planned for 44 vacant City lots between Ogden Avenue and Douglas Boulevard. Co-hosted by DPD and Ald. Monique Scott (24th) and featuring five minority-led development teams, the meeting underscored North Lawndale's profound interest in market-rate home ownership and $40 million in forthcoming residential investment.
