On Friday, March 7th, members of the Warsaw Committee of CSCI were thrilled to attend opening night of the Chicago European Union Film Festival: Spotlight Poland, taking a deep dive into Polish cinema! ???? ?? A sold out showing of Bia?a Odwaga (White Courage) and a post-showing reception with Director Marcin Kosza?ka was a wonderful way to kick-off the film festival. Thank you to the Gene Siskel Film Center for hosting this amazing event! Warsaw Committee members were joined by Polish Consul General Regina Jurkowska, Vice Consul Agata Grochowska, along with members from countless other Polish-American organizations as well as the University of Illinois European Union Center.

On March 1st, the Osaka Committee of CSCI participated in the Japan Bowl hosted by the Japan America Society of Chicago (JASC). The Illinois Japan Bowl is an academic competition which covers a wide range of topics that tests high school students who are studying the Japanese language across the state of Illinois. The competition tests not only their knowledge of the language, but also their understanding of traditional and modern Japan. This year's theme, "Osaka", highlighted Osaka's history, food, culture, and Expo 2025, this year's world Expo hosted in Osaka.????

Today in Japan, the MLB #TokyoSeries kicked off with a friendly match between the Hanshin Tigers and the Chicago Cubs! This game happened the weekend before our WBC business delegation to Tokyo and Osaka begins. Major League Baseball (MLB) gave special recognition of the Osaka and Chicago Sister Cities International partnership, one of the strongest in the world! It was especially special for me, as we wrapped our last trip to Japan in 2023 in Osaka, right as the Hanshin Tigers won the Japan Series, and we got to celebrate with the entire city. The Galway Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International was honored to work in collaboration with Notre Dame's MBA program and our partners in Galway for this exciting opportunity to support 6 great businesses in Galway through Notre Dame's Grow Irish program! This is the largest cohort that has ever been sent to Galway and the Galway Committee of CSCI is proud to have played a role in this milestone. The Mayor of the City of Galway, Cllr Peter Keane, hosted a reception for University of Notre Dame MBA students this week. The students are in Galway for a weeklong ‘Grow Irish’ immersive consulting experience, with local companies Best Practice, Clubforce, QualTech, White Spire and COPE Galway. This project is supported by our Sister Cities programme and was initiated as a direct result from the contacts developed by Kylemore Abbey, the Chicago Sister Cities International committee and the Galway Chamber, which arose from high level meetings during our City’s delegation visits to Notre Dame and South Bend in 2023 and 2024. 24 students are visiting Galway this week - this is the highest number of students University of Notre Dame has sent to any one location for this initiative.
