Over the years, we have seen more and more of our work skewing toward the nonprofit space–and that's a good thing! Developing relationships with these organizations, helping to forward their missions, and seeing the direct benefits that the work we do has on the lives of others is incredibly fulfilling. These relationships and the fruit that they've born wouldn't be possible without the efforts of our extremely dedicated lead producer Michelle Maslanka. Michelle has helped to make nonprofits one of the focal points of Motion Source's portfolio, and, in doing so, has brought a deeper meaning to the work that we do. Two days till race day! This week, we got to bring all the excitement of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon to more than 100 young runners on Chicago’s West Side, and it was priceless! Our 3rd annual Bank of America Play It Forward Clinic paired youth participants from Girls on the Run-Chicago and Chicago Run with Olympic runners and marathon winners for an afternoon of inspiration and running instruction. These young runners trained side-by-side with elite athletes like Galen Rupp, Emily Sisson, and Treniere Moser, learning important running skills like stretching, pacing, endurance, and sportsmanship. It was such a powerful afternoon, and so many of the students shared their dreams to one day run the #ChicagoMarathon. The Bank of America Play It Forward Clinic series draws on the bank’s portfolio of iconic sports partnerships to help close the opportunity gap in youth sports. Last night I attended the first of many events leading up to the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, celebrating charity runners and the economic impact of the marathon on our city — impact that extends far beyond downtown and the 29 neighborhoods the marathon itself touches on race day. As one of 192 charity partner organizations, Chicago Run‘s 70 runners are aiming to collectively raise over $120,000 to bring trauma informed, non-competitive physical activity and running programming to young people across the city. Last weekend, David Goodman joined fellow members of the Chicago Run Board of Directors and other volunteers to cheer on participants in the Running Mates program, which provides an inclusive and non-competitive environment in which young people in 3rd through 12th grade work toward completing a 5K race, while developing a positive self-image, promoting goal setting, and building relationships with peers and positive mentors. The event was held in partnership with the Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) at 63rd?Street Beach. David’s pup, Charli, served as the unofficial Chicago Run mascot and cheerleader extraordinaire as the aspiring athletes made it to the halfway mark in their first 5K run. It was a chilly but fun day for everyone!
