Winter birding. It's a thing! There are well over 100 bird species that either remain in or visit Chicago during the winter months. The cold offers numerous opportunities to enjoy birds in our city that often aren't possible other times of year. Owl season has begun in Chicago and so it's time to review our sensitive species policy. As of today, our embargo on any media containing owls or Gyrfalcons on COS social media channels has begun. These species are known to be incredibly sensitive to human activities intensified by social media activity. To ensure that these species continue to thrive in Chicago, we are choosing to enact this media policy and host a variety of classes to educate the public on ethical owling.
