Congratulations to our new Board member, Amaris E. Rodriguez of Growing Community Media NFP, on winning two 2024 Illinois Press Association awards! Rodriguez snagged first place in news reporting for coverage of a local school board election and first place in feature writing for profiling a teacher who’s championing trade school. Growing Community Media earned 35 total awards across editorial and advertising categories. A bit later than we would have liked…but CJA extends a hearty congratulations to #Chicago’s own Sarah Conway of City Bureau and Trina Reynolds-Tyler of the Invisible Institute for winning the 2024 Pulitzer Prize in Local Reporting! Their investigative series revealed how systemic racism and police department neglect contributed to a crisis of missing Black girls and women in Chicago.
