Elizabeth Olivera, an associate in Cozen O'Connor's Immigration Practice, and a member of the Board of Directors at FALA. was honored with a Rising Stars Award from the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) at its annual Human Rights Awards luncheon June 4 in Chicago. Olivera was honored for her pro bono work on behalf of NIJC, where she recently won a significant victory in Immigration Court in Chicago through Cozen O'Connor's pro bono partnership with NIJC.?Congratulations, Elizabeth!

It was a fantastic evening honoring this year’s Trailblazer Award Recipient, Winnie Nacu Kantaris, and FALA Chicago law student scholarship award recipients, J. Emilio Valcarcel and Maris Medina. Congratulations also to FALA Chicago’s Board of Directors, Honorary Boards, and Officers for their installation. The evening’s entertainment included a performance from the Filipino American Association of South DuPage Cultural Dance Group, as well as the U.S. and Filipino National Anthems by our very own, Israel Del Mundo and Janice Dantes. Last week I was honored with the Filipino American Lawyers Association of Chicago trailblazer award. Chicago-based Associate Victoria Mpistolarides attended the Filipino American Lawyers Association of Chicago's Summer Soiree and Installation Ceremony, which she both planned and emceed. During the event, Victoria was officially sworn in as the Board's Communications Officer. Kilpatrick's Thomas Haberkorn, Alyssa Freidman, Tatum Andres, Hannah Koepke, and Gerald Haberkorn were also in attendance to show their support. Congratulations, Victoria!

Associate General Counsel Winnie Nacu Kantaris has been awarded the 2024 Filipino American Lawyers Association of Chicago Trailblazer Award. Winnie is a decorated lawyer, at AD she is a core member of the Women's Business Resource Group and Co-Chair of External Events. Alongside this, she is the former President of FALA Chicago.?Under her leadership, FALA opened the first (and only) legal clinic dedicated?to the Filipino Community in the Midwest, raised funds to purchase Medals of Honor for Filipino World War II Veterans and raised urgent funds for typhoon victims.? ? On a national level, she is a founding member and serves as Pamana Chair and Central Regional Governor for the National Filipino American Lawyers Association (NFALA).?She an active member of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and alumna of Loyola University Chicago School of Law.?
