Founded in 1982, the Chicago Chapter's mission is to advance the profession of Facilities Management and to support the professional growth and development of facilities managers in the Chicagoland area. The chapter accomplishes this mission for over 300 members by providing programs that advance our members' professional education, creating networking and information sharing opportunities, fostering the attainment of CFM designation, acting as an information resource, promoting synergy between professional and associate members, recognizing members' achievements in the field and championing initiatives that make our members better corporate citizens (e.g., sustainability and community service initiatives.) Member Spotlight: Meet Cara N. Swanson, an operations professional dedicated to providing workplace solutions for corporate real estate needs. As the Director of Facilities & Workplace Services at NORC at the University of Chicago, Cara oversees general facility management, construction and major move management, as well as emergency response and safety efforts for NORC’s national real estate portfolio. Throughout her career, she has managed workplace operations for over 1 million square feet of space and led more than 30 capital construction projects. Passionate about a customer-first approach, Cara strives to create and maintain an environment that enhances the employee workplace experience. She is committed to fostering collaborative, cross-functional, and positive relationships across teams.Cara is an active member of the Chicago Chapter of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and has served on the board since 2021, most recently as Vice Chair of the Associates Committee.
