This week at the Bernstein Private Wealth Management's Chicago Innovation Conference, jointly sponsored by P33 Chicago and CBRE., CBC's Michelle Burbea Hoffmann joined a panel of industry experts including Ritu Shah, PMP, Portal Innovations, LLC, Lev Becker, Onchilles Pharma, Azurii K. Collier, Ph.D., AbbVie, Caralynn Nowinski Collens, Dimension Inx to take a?deep dive into the work that’s being done in the AI & Biotech ecosystems in Chicago. This was a great event providing a platform for leaders, founders and, capital providers to explore and discuss where Chicago is winning, where & how we need to improve, and how growth in these sectors will affect the future of Chicago.

Our Executive Director Michelle Burbea Hoffmann spoke with Gwendolyn Wu at BioPharma Dive about how the Trump administration’s plans to reduce NIH grant funding, layoffs and the uncertainty of what’s to come has long-term implications to the pharma industry as well as the academic labs where scientific discoveries often occur. Michelle shared the following insight on funding cuts: “Without that help, ‘how are you going to get the next generation of therapies? There’s no biotech without venture, but there’s also no biotech without academic discovery.’ Michelle is joined by other notable biotech investors sharing valuable insights such as David Yang (Lux Capital) Christiana Bardon M.D. (MPM BioImpact) Lindy Morris Fishburne (Breakout Ventures) as well as Recursion’s Altitude Lab exec director Chandana Haque.
