Chesapeake Technology is a leader in ocean geophysical and seafloor mapping solutions. Chesapeake Technology’s flagship software solution, SonarWiz, is a high quality data acquisition and survey and mapping processing software suite that has set a new standard for ease, simplicity and quality. COMIT | Center for Ocean Mapping and Innovative Technologies and University of South Florida College of Marine Science students and staff participated in a SonarWiz software training last week, expanding their knowledge and skills with more tools available for visualizing and processing survey and mapping data. As Sean Beckwith shared: ??? The SonarWiz training was a valuable opportunity to learn some of the core workflows and tools available for side-scan sonar, multibeam bathymetry, and seismic profiles. Draping side-scan imagery over bathymetry or draping either of those over seismic profiles and exploring through the 3D visualization window was entertaining and informative. ?? IAG-USP Summer School 2025, an opportunity to disseminate the importance of geophysics to society. I had the honor of being invited to teach a course on Side Scan Sonar, a geophysical method that I particularly appreciate. Thank you Prof. Jorge Porsani (IAG_USP) for the invitation; thank you Thalita Borba (IAG-USP PhD student) for the support in the monitoring; thank you students for the active presence in the training. Special thanks to Chesapeake Technology, Inc. for the important support, offering to the students the opportunity to use Sonarwiz during the training. I hope to have won over 20 more lovers of the art of investigating underwater environments using Side Scan Sonar!
