The Cherokee Office of Economic Development (COED) exists to promote economic development in Cherokee County by aiding in the expansion of existing industry and through the attraction of new investment and quality employment opportunities. The community focuses on economic development to create economic opportunity for all citizens, i.e. jobs; stimulate business investment; diversify the public revenue base. COED aids in economic growth by working with existing industries to expand as well as by recruiting additional businesses to the community. Cherokee County is one in five Georgia Counties identified by the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) as having an Innovation Economy that tops the national average. The average is taken from the Innovation Index sponsored by the U.S. Commerce Department. COED is Cherokee’s Leading Organization for Business & Film Recruitment and Industry Retention & Expansion.

Last week we held our last #CherokeeWorkforceCollaborative meeting of 2024. During the meeting, we shared key insights from our Workforce Development Strategy, highlighting our strategic goals alongside the Wage & Fringe Benefits Survey and the Skills Gap Analysis. The Strategic Recommendations will guide our next steps, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with all stakeholders, including employers and educators. The Workforce Collaborative continues to play a pivotal role in advancing our workforce strategy. Thanks to all those who attended!

Check out this Hill District News photo from the Canton set of locally filmed movie "The Piano Lesson", based on August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, which opens in select theatres today and drops on Netflix on 11/22! The feature film was directed by Malcolm Washington, stars Samuel L. Jackson & John David Washington, and was produced by Denzel Washington. In Spring 2023, set crews and scenic painters spent weeks transforming Canton's historic mill community on Academy and Hill Streets into a 1930's Pittsburgh street corner styled after the playwright's childhood neighborhood. The production team utilized Cherokee-based J.C. Picture Cars for period-appropriate automobiles to enrich the exterior environments.
