Can Gen Z design for the needs of their grandparents? The answer is resoundingly .. yes! Especially at my company, Cherish, where they are part of a diverse team spanning four generations who are creating magic together. When Cherish was recognized last night as a winner in Fast Company's 2024 Innovation by Design Awards, I felt a moment of pride not only as its founder and CEO but also as a father. True story: My son Aveen and his likewise talented classmate Ryan beat out renowned, professional designers in imagining our flagship product, Cherish Serenity's industrial design. Why did we choose their design? We let our users pick their favorite option in a blind test. Overwhelmingly, our users shared how much they connected to Aveen and Ryan's creation—the shape, size, fabric, wood, lights, sound, and the whole personality of the thing. Fast Company noted we avoided the “clunky tells of a medical device,” and that hit the nail on the head. Here's what's even more impressive: they were only sixteen back then. Their work speaks for itself, and we're thrilled to celebrate it with Fast Company.
