Detailed Project Report for Metro Rail Transit System between Koyambedu and Pattabiram (Outer Ring Road) Detailed Project Report (DPR) for recommendation of extension of Metro Rail between Koyambedu and Pattabiram (Outer Ring Road) was submitted by Thiru. M.A. Siddique, I.A.S., Principal Secretary to Government, Managing Director, CMRL to Thiru. Dr. K Gopal IAS., Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Special Initiatives, Government of Tamil Nadu at Secretariat, Chennai today (21.02.2025). Thiru. T. Archunan, Director (Projects) and other Senior Officials of CMRL were present during the occasion. The proposed Metro line is starting from existing Koyambedu metro station, passing through Padi Pudhu Nagar, Mugappair, Ambattur, Thirumullaivoyal, Avadiand ending at Pattabiram (ORR), which will provide seamless connectivity to the transport hubs like Ambattur Easte Terminus & Ambattur OT, Avadi Railway station & Bus terminus and Outer Ring Road (ORR). It is integrated with the Highway flyover at three locations (i.e. Ambattur Estate Bus Depot junction, Near Dunlop, in front ?Avadi bus stand) to optimizes the project cost and implementation time. The salient features of Detailed Project Report (DPR) are as follows. ? Total Length Corridor: 21.76 km ? No. of Elevated Stations: 19 Nos ? First Tunnel Boring Machine launched from Corridor 5 of CMRL Phase 2 project TBM Kurinji launched at Kolathur Ramp. Chennai Metro Rail Limited has commenced the expansion of the Chennai city’s metro rail network as part of Phase II after the successful completion of the Phase I and Phase I Extension Corridors in stages since June 2015 and the growing ridership in Corridors 1&2. Now, CMRL has ventured into an extensive infrastructure development in the city comprising of three more corridors of metro rail for a total length of 118.9 km being funded by several multi-national funding agencies including the JICA, ADB, AIIB & NDB. Corridor 5 begins at Madhavaram Milk colony and connects through Koyambedu, Porur, Alandur and other residential/commercial development of the city to Shollinganallur for a total length of 47.0 km with 5 underground stations and 39 elevated stations. Four TBMs, each named after distinct Tamil landscapes (Kurinji, Mullai, Marutham, and Neithal), will be deployed for Corridor 5. TBM Kurinji, the first to be launched today (19-02-2025), will bore a 246-meter tunnel from Kolathur Ramp towards Kolathur Station (upline) and is expected to reach in June 2025. It will then be retrieved and relaunched from the south shaft to tunnel towards Srinivasa Nagar (1.06 kms). The second TBM, Mullai, is expected to arrive by the end of March 2025 and will begin tunnelling adjacent to Villivakkam Railway Station towards VillivakkamBus Terminus (603 meters). The remaining two TBMs will be launched based on site readiness. The 7.8 km underground tunnel section with twin tunnel of 3.9 km each of Corridor 5, including five underground stations from Kolathur Ramp to NathamuniRamp are being executed through M/s.Tata Projects limited and have to mobilize a total of 4 TBMs for the works. 76th?Republic Day Celebrated at?MetroS?CMRL Head Office CMRL celebrated the 76th?Republic Day at?MetroS, Head Office Building?Nandanam,?Anna?Salai?today (26.01.2025).?Thiru.?M.A.?Siddique, I.A.S., Principal Secretary / Managing Director of CMRL hoisted the National Flag and accepted the parade salute. ? Recognizing a decade at CMRL: As part of the Republic Day celebrations, CMRL took the opportunity to?honor employees who have completed a decade of dedicated service. A total of 24 officials were presented with a Certificate of Appreciation and a memento by the Managing Director, in recognition of their valuable contributions over the years. Encouraging Sportsmanship: On Republic Day Celebrations, to encourage sportsmanship among fellow colleagues, CMRL organized a series of sports competitions for its staff, including badminton, chess,?carrom, cricket, brisk walk, and table tennis. Several employees actively participated, and prizes were awarded to 49 officials and staff members by the Managing Director during the celebrations. CMRL won the cricket competition organized by NKAB GC1.? A cricket tournament was hosted by NKAB GC1.CMRL won the tournament by competing against 16 private companies. The championship trophy was presented to the winning team by the Managing Director, adding to the festive spirit of the Republic Day observance.
