Today, Chenega Corporation is closed in remembrance of Chenega Day—a day to pause, reflect, and honor the memory of the tragic events that unfolded on Good Friday, March 27, 1964. It was on that day that the village of Chenega was tragically destroyed by a powerful tsunami, unleashed by a 9.2 magnitude earthquake. The loss of life was devastating. In an instant, centuries of history were swept away, and 26 members of the Chenega community—more than one-third of the population—lost their lives. This made Chenega the community with the highest percentage of loss in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami. In the years that followed, the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) of 1971 helped lay the foundation for the creation of Chenega Corporation. But it wasn’t until 1984 that the resilient and determined people of Chenega began to rebuild. They established the village of Chenega Bay in Prince William Sound, and through their unwavering strength, both the Corporation and the village have flourished since. Today, we take a moment to honor the memory of those affected by this profound tragedy—the families who lost their homes, their heritage, and, for many, their loved ones. We honor their courage and the enduring spirit of the Chenega people, whose strength in the face of unimaginable adversity turned what could have been a devastating loss into the creation of a thriving corporation. As we reflect on this history, let us remember the power of resilience, the strength of community, and the importance of honoring our past while looking forward to the bright future we continue to build together.

What We Do Wednesday! Today we are featuring our subsidiary company, Chenega Base & Logistics Services, LLC (CBLS). CBLS currently holds 12 contracts, setting the standard for excellence in logistics and base operations. Our team is made up of trendsetters and trailblazers who are not afraid to take on tough jobs and deliver outstanding results. As General Manager Tim Johnson puts it: "We are not afraid to go out and do the hard work. I set the standard by leading from the front, not the rear. I don’t just sit behind a desk sending emails I’m in the field working alongside my employees. I’ll pick up a broom, a mop, or operate material handling equipment because I won’t ask my team to do anything I wouldn’t do myself. That how I earn the respect and loyalty of CBLS employees." Tim’s journey from a young kid growing up in East Orange ( Little City) NJ, to leading a thriving company is a testament to hard work, dedication, and the power of an amazing team. As we move into 2025, CBLS remains committed to delivering quality, professional work and continuing to set the bar high in our industry. Enjoy this video introducing some of the CBLS team, contact Tim Johnson to discuss how CBLS can support you. #chenega #chenegafamily #whatwedowednesday
