Crude oil emulsions are a common issue in oilfield operations, forming when water and oil mix with the help of emulsifying agents and shear forces. Emulsion formation is affected by : ?? Emulsifying agents Crude oil demulsification is a crucial operation in oil and gas production. Selecting the right demulsifier requires technical expertise to identify the best intermediate that will effectively break the emulsion under real field conditions. The demulsifier selection process typically follows these steps: ? Field Survey / Risk Assessment – studying and analyzing the production system, produced fluids, and root causes of emulsion formation. ? Lab Testing / Bottle Test – Identify the most effective intermediate or blend to achieve optimal separation and water quality. The test should be designed to closely represent field conditions for accurate results. ? Field Trial – Apply the lab-tested demulsifier in real-world conditions to validate its performance. ? Optimization – Gradually adjust the injection dosage to achieve the best separation at the lowest effective dose. ? Full-Field Application – Once validated, the demulsifier is deployed across the production system. Flow assurance is essential for maintaining the safe and efficient transportation of hydrocarbons from reservoirs to processing facilities. However, various solid deposits can form in pipelines and production systems, leading to blockages, equipment failures, and costly shutdowns. This course explores: ?
