A story about wireless video feeds, for multiple users, in a field, with no access to power...in the rain
Last week i spend a few days at St Mary’s University, Twickenham introducing staff and students to Fulcrum Technologies PL suite of products in support of the #teaching & #learning across the Chelsea FC Foundation Coaching & Development Degree (FdSc/BSc) & Sports Performance Analysis & Talent ID courses.
This took me back to 'my old days' in many ways, not least because I was setting up filming equipment in the middle of a field in the rain (see bin liner being used as Piston waterproof), but this task also got me thinking about #creative ways to deploy technology in #teaching & #coaching.
Of course not every sports club, team or organisation will have access to things like 8m tripods, battery powered Piston systems & cameras, but I wonder how creative their application to teaching & learning is, and how creative those with equipment like this at their disposal are being in deploying this type of kit.
Ashley Gumbrell had a great idea - Live review & video supported feedback for football coaches with the goal of engaging coaches, participants & observers, while also contextualising themes covered on the course and applying them directly & instantly to practice.
This required filming coaching sessions, coaches wearing microphones and live video review via Piston. Observers were able to upload coach behaviours to a Markup in Piston, collaborate live on their observations by coding them & feed back to coaches in-situ and in the seminar that followed.
This was a fantastic idea in week 1 of the course and i'm excited to see what else we can support St Mary’s University, Twickenham with in the space as the academic year progresses!
