On Friday, the Chef team headed out of the office for a day of fun in San Francisco! Our team offsite started at the California Academy of Sciences, where we explored all the interactive exhibits. From there we were off to Fort Point Beer Company to sample delicious local beers, and finally we wrapped up with some rainy day ramen at Ramenwell in The Mission. We're grateful to have such a wonderful team of talented people that not only makes big things happen, but has fun while doing it!

Chef’s mission is to empower humans by accelerating the advent of intelligent machines in the world
关于我们
At Chef we believe that AI’s biggest impact will be on the physical world, representing 90% of Global GDP. In the food industry, for example, in 2023 there were 1,137,000 jobs unfilled in food preparation and service (Bureau for Labor Statistics). These growing labor shortages are forcing food companies to leave millions of dollars on the table every year in unmet demand. As this pain becomes more acute, food companies are more aggressively seeking out alternatives, including off-shoring more and more parts of the food supply chain to other countries where there is more labor available; this of course comes with its own significant risks for the US. Chef Robotics offers a new way for food companies to overcome their labor shortage and increase production volume using AI-enabled robots that mimic the flexibility of humans. Chef allows companies to maximize revenue by meeting demand, while keeping the American food supply chain onshore. Chef's mission is to accelerate the advent of intelligent machines in the world to empower humans to do what humans do best.

Chef is solving a critical problem. With over one million unfilled jobs, the U.S. food industry is struggling to supply enough labor to meet demand. We recently joined Chris Luecke on Manufacturing Happy Hour to discuss Chef's story, and how we're working to provide food companies with a form of consistent and reliable labor that ensures they won't be forced to leave revenue on the table. Thanks for having us on Chris! Listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/gMtztTHq

"The usual trajectory for a company is to start small before going big. Chef Robotics is doing the opposite." Starting in food manufacturing facilities allows us to collect millions of real-world data points to train our robots on. Food is inherently variable, and robots need real-world practice to learn how to reason and deal with this variety. Check out this article from Food On Demand for more on where we've started, and where we're headed!

Chef robots run on our generalized food manipulation model, ChefOS. ChefOS gives each system the ability to reason like a human would and make intelligent decisions based on data collected in the field. This means that Chef can handle the massive variety of ingredients used in high-mix meal assembly. From macaroni to chili to shredded cheese and beyond, the same software and hardware system can handle many different ingredients.

The food industry is facing a huge labor shortage, preventing companies from being able to meet customer demand. Robots can help fill in the gaps. Thanks Back of House for including us for thoughts on how implementing robots to do dull, dangerous, and dirty work is helping food companies solve some of their most critical challenges.

Chef robots are collaborative in nature. With their ability to work side by side with humans, they can be used as a supplement to labor force. In an industry like food preparation and production where companies are facing the #1 labor shortage in the U.S., having additional labor supply at your fingertips makes all the difference in being able to meet customer demand.
Here's an example of a Chef partially automated line with Chef and humans. Robots and humans work together to help this high-mix food production company.

Chef systems work seamlessly alongside humans, allowing food companies to elect to only partially automate production lines.
Chef systems are designed to work collaboratively with people. Here you can see a few robots working together to assemble a meal, with each robot handling one ingredient. Humans handle other ingredients and together this collaboration frees up people to do other jobs at the plant. Chef robots' ability to work safely alongside humans means that food companies don't have to commit to fully automating an operation from the get go. Instead, they can implement as many or as few robots as they'd like while still reaping the benefits of having a supplement to their labor force. The robots can easily be moved on and off production lines (they're on casters), so they can be moved around and placed wherever makes the most sense depending on the production run happening on a given day.
