In a war-ravaged region of the Middle East, families return to find their homes in ruins—no doors, no windows, no heat—while night temperatures plunge below freezing. Guardian Zach shares: “People are hungry, freezing, without shelter, and without any means of making a living. We met Amira*, who sold her phone just to buy food. She literally has nothing—only a tarp roof, no windows or door, and with bullet holes in her walls. It was raining and hailing, and it took all she had to keep the water from leaking in. We also met a girl who was eleven years old but was no bigger than the body of a two-year-old. Her mother held her frail body in her arms pleading for our help. We were able to immediately supply food and clean water for her, but the situation is dire for many more families across the region.” While this portion of Operation Red One is now complete, plans are being explored for longer future deployments to the area. A team of Chazak Guardians is currently preparing to deploy on a mission in the Middle East. Details must remain limited for now, but we are looking forward to providing humanitarian aid, medical treatment, evacuation assistance, and more to regions affected by the recent toppling of the Syrian regime. DEPLOYMENT UPDATE: OPERATION CHIDO Amid working to gain access to the majorly cyclone-affected areas of Mozambique, the team is navigating an escalating situation on the streets due to recent election results. “With the protest starting yesterday afternoon our plan for today was to stay low and see where things go. This morning the gunshots started around 7:00 and sporadically continued all day. Around noon a patient with a gunshot wound to the leg was brought to us. We stopped the bleeding, packaged the wound, and got him a motorbike ride to the hospital. With the gunfire getting closer, we stayed inside the remainder of the day and began to strategize on our next steps.” - Kris Currently, we have plans to gain access to the northern region of Mozambique in a few days, which is currently avoided by aid organizations due to armed rebel groups. Operation Sandman In November 2024, Chazak's Operation Sandman continued with a deployment to South Sudan where our team, consisting of a Chazak Humanitarian Liaison and a Guardian, focused on setting up logistical resources and strengthening partnerships with local leaders and organizations in conflict-affected, flooded, and impoverished zones to continue preparations for future Guardian deployments to reach the unreached populations. The team also located promising facilities for a longer-term Forward Operating Base in the region! During their travels, the team faced border delays and the confiscation of communication equipment, but navigated these challenges professionally while continuing to build connections and gather vital information for future humanitarian efforts. They met with local leaders and community organizers, many of whom are central to the peace-building efforts in the region. These leaders, many of whom have been displaced multiple times, showed incredible resilience and forgiveness, a true testament to their faith in God. Looking ahead, we are planning a possibly operational deployment in early 2025 focused on pushing further into the conflict zones with emergency medical field clinics and humanitarian aid, though our plans remain flexible due to the ever-evolving situation on the ground. Individuals from Chazak Rescue have established a command center in North Carolina where they are collecting and distributing truckloads of supplies to aid those who have lost everything due to Hurricane Helene. Chazak staff and volunteers are currently clearing out roads and doing wellness checks for people who haven’t heard from their loved ones. Chazak has partnered with PCCR and JAARS to supply food and access areas that are closed off because of washed out roads, and bring hope and aid to these people in their time of need. Chazak’s mission focuses on reaching the unreached internationally, but we also recognize the urgent need to respond to disasters within our own country and assist those in hopeless situations. The date is September 22nd, 2024, and we are in East Africa. Look at this photo—A child, wrapped in his mother's swaddle: comfortable, content, adorable. Unfortunately, while this small babe may look cozy now, he will have a tough road ahead. Why? Because here, we find ourselves in a country gripped by war. More specifically, a city bursting at its seams with people seeking refuge from the horrors that pursue their lives. . . Currently, more than a dozen African nations, find themselves in the throws of warfare. However, despite the millions displaced, injured, and dead, these wars go mostly unreported by the West. They are wars that Chazak is taking an interest in. Our goal: fulfill our purpose statement—“To give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; and deliver them from the hand of the wicked”—Psalms 82:3-4. (Specific locations have been intentionally omitted from this post.
