Thank you, Yardi for volunteering with us! Yesterday, Yardi volunteers worked alongside Coles Bradley our Unity Garden Coordinator to create 6 new planting beds and 7 furrows. These energized volunteers also assisted with weeding, maintenance and mulching of three walkways in the garden. All produce from our Unity Garden is donated to North Fulton Community Charities to help ease food insecurity in our community. We are grateful to partner with an organization that is dedicated to easing hardship in our community. #TogetherWeCanHelp As the Thanksgiving Holiday approaches please keep in mind that there are many families in our community that are food insecure. Please consider volunteering or donating to a local food pantry to help those in need. #NotYourTypicalWorkday #Volunteer #Grateful Powered by Kaiser Permanente Georgia

Thank you, SiteOne Landscape Supply for volunteering with us! Yesterday, SiteOne volunteers divided into two groups: Team 1 worked alongside Coles Bradley in the Unity Garden. ?Volunteers helped harvest the last of the lima bean crop, cleared planting beds, and moved the depleted plants up to our compost pile. Volunteers also covered field rows 1-3 to protect recently planted vegetables from the temperature drop, and helped spread blood meal (a dry, inert powder) used for pest control to help keep the rabbits and squirrels out of the garden. Team 2 worked alongside our operations team to begin the process of dismantling an old dock that has fallen into disrepair. These volunteers donned wading boots, grabbed a couple of power drills and jumped into action. By the end of the day, the old dock was almost completely dismantled. Our dock on Heron Pond is used by our Education Department and Camp Kingfisher to introduce children throughout metro Atlanta to the world of aquatic insects and water ecology through pond studies. Making sure we have a dock that is safe for the children that visit our campus is our highest priority! We are grateful to SiteOne for your support on these important projects and we hope your team enjoyed their day out in nature! #NotYourTypicalWorkday #Community #Volunteer Powered by Kaiser Permanente Georgia

Thank you, Imerys for volunteering with us in the rain! Today, Imerys volunteers worked alongside Henning von Schmeling in the greenhouse area. They helped propagate numerous trays of Swiss chard and Marathon Broccoli, which will be planted in the CNC Unity Garden and then later donated to North Fulton Community Charities. Gardening note: Propagation is the process of growing new plants from existing ones, using parts of the parent plant like seeds, cuttings, stems, leaves, or roots. The method used in the greenhouse today was division which involves splitting a parent plant into sections, each of which can be replanted as a separate plant. We appreciate your continued support of Chattahoochee Nature Center and our mission to #ConnectPeoplewithNature. #NotYourTypicalWorkday #Volunteer #Community Powered by Kaiser Permanente Georgia

This Red-tailed Hawk (case 24-0595) was found injured in Auburn, Georgia, after a collision with a car. Her wing was fractured, and her chances of survival were slim. Vet students at the University of Georgia stabilized the wing and transferred her to CNC for rehabilitation. Upon arrival, our wildlife staff provided physical therapy and ensured she was able to catch live prey. Thanks to the dedication of our team and the compassion of donors like you, 24-0595 received months of rehabilitation, and, just a few weeks ago, was released back into the wild—strong, healthy, and soaring once again. Each year, CNC cares for hundreds of animals who need urgent help. Our service is not government-funded and relies strictly on donations. Your year-end gift will directly fund their rehabilitation, medical treatments, and safe release back into the wild. Every dollar makes a difference in the lives of these beautiful creatures, and thanks to the generosity of Judy and Walter Hoyt, your gift is matched dollar for dollar up to $30,000! Make a donation today to help support CNC's ongoing efforts in wildlife rehabilitation. https://lnkd.in/dB3-KK9u #CNCNature?#ChattahoocheeNatureCenter?#GetYourNatureOn?#ConnectWithNature?#NatureBasedLearning?#ChattahoocheeRiver?#Donate?#GiveBack?#Nonprofit?#Charity?#MakeaDifference?#Wildlife?#Hawk?#RedTailedHawk

Thank you, Cox Enterprises for being a Gold Sponsor of Chattahoochee Nature Center and for volunteering with us! We value your partnership. Today, COX volunteers worked with our horticulture team on a greenhouse project. Volunteers?helped move planting tables, and scraped mold, fungi and weeds off the floor of the greenhouse. Not the most glamorous task but truly important to the overall health of the native plants that will be overwintering in the CNC greenhouse. ?Interesting fact: weeds have explosive seed capsules and even a single weed hiding in the corner under a table of the greenhouse can have a negative impact. The Chattahoochee Nature Center strives to educate the public on the importance of native plants to our local ecosystem. Our Conservation Horticulturist Henning von Schmeling is a respected expert in the field of plant conservation across the Southeast. We host weekly volunteer opportunities in the greenhouse for individual volunteers as well as corporate volunteer groups. Please contact us if you’re interested in learning more about the impact of native plants. #NotYourTypicalWorkday #Volunteer #PlantNative Powered by Kaiser Permanente Georgia

We are excited to announce the launch of our Annual Appeal Campaign! 2024 has been both an exciting and challenging year for CNC. Rising costs due to inflation have put an unprecedented strain on our ability to maintain the programs, services, and care of CNC’s 127 acres. To ensure we can continue our vital work into the new year, we must raise $200,000 by December 31. Thanks to the generosity of Judy & Walter Hoyt, we're starting off strong with a $30,000 Matching Challenge Gift! This means every dollar you donate will be doubled, dollar for dollar, up to $30,000—doubling the impact of your support! Give today and be part of something extraordinary. Together, we can reach our goal and continue the magic that is CNC! Listen in to CNC’s latest podcast and learn from Meg Krueger about the important work Wilderness Inquiry does to connect people of all abilities and backgrounds to the outdoors. We have been honored to host the Canoemobile program for a number of years on the Chattahoochee River, thank you Smurfit Westrock and National Parks Trust for helping us bring the program to our community this year! ??
Canoemobile is in Atlanta this week working with our partners at the Chattahoochee Nature Center, Inc. to connect participants to the outdoors. Earlier this month, our Adventures and Programs Director Meg Krueger joined Melissa Carter on the Chattahoochee Nature Center podcast Your Place on the River to talk about representation and the importance of adaptive equipment in outdoor recreation. "You don't need to always adapt the environment for accommodating different needs. You need to adapt your approach, you need to adapt your communication, you need to adapt how you think about it." -Meg Krueger Listen to the podcast episode at the link below or find it wherever you get your podcasts!

Thank you, Aprio for volunteering with us! Today, Aprio worked in the Unity Garden alongside our garden coordinator, Coles Bradley. Volunteers helped dig trenches to create new planting beds where we will be planting Chinese cabbage. Volunteers also helped with weeding and maintenance of existing planting beds and helped harvest butter beans. ?We also placed several Aprio volunteers in the greenhouse area. Those volunteers helped trim back ferns and overgrown vegetation, and assisted with scraping, sweeping and transporting large amounts of soil. All produce from our Unity Garden is donated to North Fulton Community Charities to help ease food insecurity in our community. Last year we produced nearly 10,000 pounds of fresh produce for donation! As a nonprofit, we rely on our corporate volunteers to help with numerous projects across CNC grounds. We are grateful for your continued support and we hope your team enjoyed their day out in nature! #NotYourTypicalWorkday #Volunteer #GiveBack Powered by Kaiser Permanente Georgia
