?? Gradual release of responsibility ?? ???? Instructor: Teach the language construction ???? With the student: Sort the language pattern ?? With the student: Investigate the pattern ?? Student independently: Imitate the pattern We want students to play around with language. We want them to imitate patterns. ?? We are not necessarily looking for perfection. We are looking for that gradual release of responsibility as students begin to feel more empowered and confident to identify those various language features. ?? #cognitiveflexibility #capti #VocabularyEnrichment #sentenceprocessing #languageprocessing #middleschool #semantics #decodingthreshold #readingintervention #webinar #languagestructures #wordorder #teaching #educationtechnology #education #basicclauses #basicphrases

There's a problem with vocabulary. ?? The sheer volume of words surpasses our capacity for teaching. ?? There are more than 700,000 words and they continue to grow each year. ?? Relying solely on rote memorization isn't a realistic solution. ?? We must accept that we really can't teach all of these words. ??♂? A standard adult vocabulary demands more than mere memorization. ?? #cognitiveflexibility #capti #VocabularyEnrichment #sentenceprocessing #languageprocessing #middleschool #semantics #decodingthreshold #readingintervention #webinar #languagestructures #wordorder #teaching #educationtechnology #education #basicclauses #basicphrases

Basic Phrases: Noun We identify the villager as the noun, with the adjective “worried” before it. This phrase specifies what type of villager we are talking about. As instructors, we can also teach students basic phrases. Students should be able to identify and have awareness of phrase patterns. Encouraging awareness of phrase patterns fuels deeper phrasal-level reading. ???? #cognitiveflexibility?#capti?#VocabularyEnrichment?#sentenceprocessing?#languageprocessing?#middleschool?#semantics?#decodingthreshold?#readingintervention?#webinar?#languagestructures?#wordorder?#teaching?#educationtechnology?#education?#basicclauses?#basicphrases

Understanding word order rules is one of the first steps in students developing language structures. Instructors can use these syntax rules to support students in elementary all the way up to high school. ?? 1. The subject comes before the verb - Subject can be a noun or pronoun 2. Adjective comes before the noun 3. A noun(or pronoun) + a linking verb + adjective - Linking verbs are words like am, is, are, etc. It is important to teach these rules to support students in developing their reading and writing ability. After students are taught and understand these word order rules, ask them to write an example to display their true understanding and help build their meta-linguistic awareness of languages. ?? #cognitiveflexibility?#capti?#VocabularyEnrichment?#sentenceprocessing?#languageprocessing?#middleschool?#semantics?#decodingthreshold?#readingintervention?#webinar?#languagestructures?#wordorder?#teaching?#educationtechnology?#education

As teachers, we often don’t get training in the linguistic aspects of language. The focus tends to be on the content with no acknowledgment of the language used to construct disciplinary meaning. We look through the text, to the content. We must make language OPAQUE. Students have to be able to understand the grammatical elements within the sentence and ultimately the text to be able to construct meaning from it. We have to look at the language used and move beyond. Rely on the rules that govern language to encourage students to do the same. #cognitiveflexibility?#capti?#VocabularyEnrichment?#sentenceprocessing?#languageprocessing?#middleschool?#semantics?#decodingthreshold?#readingintervention?#webinar?#languagestructures

Reading fluency is a pivotal skill that bridges decoding and word recognition with language comprehension.??? When readers lack fluent reading, comprehension suffers. In this evidence-based webinar, we share the cognitive processes that contribute to fluent reading, drawing from decades of research. We provide practical strategies to support the development of reading fluency in grades 3-12, along with assessments that measure fluency. ??Wednesday, March 20th | 3-4 PM EST. ?? Did you know??? Syntax refers to the formation of sentences and their associated grammar rules. Syntactic skills are also related to reading and language comprehension. Adolescent students need to be able to understand why an adjective comes before a noun. This helps with their understanding of how text is constructed. #cognitiveflexibility?#capti?#VocabularyEnrichment?#sentenceprocessing?#languageprocessing?#middleschool?#semantics?#decodingthreshold?#readingintervention?#syntax
