关于我们
United by a shared commitment to the power of storytelling, the Charlotte Journalism Collaborative (CJC) brings together journalists, news organizations and community institutions to create a more informed and engaged Charlotte. The CJC was launched in 2019 by Solutions Journalism Network with support from the Knight Foundation to strengthen and reinvigorate local media ecosystems. Members of the CJC include: Carolina Public Press, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, The Charlotte Observer, James L. Knight School of Communication at Queens University of Charlotte, La Noticia, QCity Metro, Qnotes, WCNC Charlotte and WFAE 90.7 FM. The Charlotte Journalism Collaborative is supported by a combination of local and national grants and sponsorships. Funding for the CJC is administered by Queens University of Charlotte, a 501(c)(3) organization and home of the James L. Knight School of Communication.

Senior Associate Dean, John M. Mutz Chair in Local News, Medill School, Northwestern University. Leader, Medill Local News Initiative
The good folks at WFAE "Charlotte Talks" devoted nearly an hour this morning to a deep-dive on the State of Local News, including the major findings in the new Medill Local News Initiative Northwestern University Medill School annual report on the local news landscape. I was thrilled to be part of such an in-depth and thoughtful conversation about the local news crisis and its impact on communities. It was a pleasure to be joined by Lizzy Hazeltine of North Carolina Local News Lab Fund, Kyle Villemain of The Assembly, and Glenn Burkins of @Q City Metro. https://lnkd.in/g7vbRxRv

Helping people flourish | Growing access and opportunity | Associate Director, NC Local News Lab Fund
Hi all, I recommend this longform conversation from Charlotte Talks on WFAE about "the state of local news in NC and across the nation." https://lnkd.in/e5TY4REN Why? Service-oriented local news does a ton of under-appreciated work to serve people's needs: holds officials accountable (more local government news –> more transparency –> less corruption), informs people's decision-making and thinking (from who are the candidates to what's at stake), provides life-saving information during crises (recent example: Hurricane Helene in WNC), and more. And maybe you want to learn more about my work too. These panelists get into it: – Lizzy Hazeltine – my colleague who directs the North Carolina Local News Lab Fund – Glenn Burkins – editor and publisher of QCity Metro, news outlet that focuses on serving Charoltte's Black residents – Kyle Villemain – founder and editor at The Assembly, North Carolina's longform journalism outlet about power and place – Tim Franklin – professor at Northwestern University Medill School's journalism department and director of the Medill Local News Initiative It aired live this morning and will air again tonight on WFAE at 8pm ET. The audio will also be uploaded at the link here.
