The good folks at WFAE "Charlotte Talks" devoted nearly an hour this morning to a deep-dive on the State of Local News, including the major findings in the new Medill Local News Initiative Northwestern University Medill School annual report on the local news landscape. I was thrilled to be part of such an in-depth and thoughtful conversation about the local news crisis and its impact on communities. Hi all, I recommend this longform conversation from Charlotte Talks on WFAE about "the state of local news in NC and across the nation." https://lnkd.in/e5TY4REN Why? Service-oriented local news does a ton of under-appreciated work to serve people's needs: holds officials accountable (more local government news –> more transparency –> less corruption), informs people's decision-making and thinking (from who are the candidates to what's at stake), provides life-saving information during crises (recent example: Hurricane Helene in WNC), and more. And maybe you want to learn more about my work too.
