Yesterday, I met a little boy in our program who I haven’t been able to stop thinking about.?He’s only five years old.?Despite having siblings, his parents made the heartbreaking decision to place him in foster care, feeling he was "too much" to handle. While his siblings remain with the family, he is now navigating a world where he feels completely alone. His therapist shared this picture from his therapy session. Using?Child-Centered Play Therapy, he created this image to process his trauma and loss. The?baby in the bubble?represents?him—isolated, while everyone else around him has connection, family, and caregivers.?This is how he feels. We are still in the early stages of helping him process his?loss, sadness, and confusion. But here’s the hope—therapy is giving him the space to?grieve, express, and heal. This work is?hard. But these kids?deserve it.?They deserve to be seen, heard, and supported as they navigate unthinkable pain. If this story moves you, I invite you to?be part of the solution.?The work we do at?Charleston Hope?makes moments like this possible—giving children like him a?safe space to heal and a community that won’t give up on them. ?? Keep him in your thoughts. ?? Advocate for mental health support for kids like him. ?? Help us continue providing therapy for children who need it most by donating to our mission using the link in the comments. We need your help. These stories?aren’t easy—but these kids??They are worth it.

We are feeling so grateful to be named Non-Profit of the Year by The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce! As we reflect on this honor, we can’t NOT thank each of YOU for supporting our work to increase school-based health services so that ALL students can have the opportunity to access the care they need. Providing over 1,000 hours of free therapy and mental health programs each year couldn’t be done without our amazing staff, Board of Directors, donors, partners, and community. We have more work to do and more access to create — but for this moment, we pause, reflect and say THANK YOU to our community, Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, and YOU! #charlestonhope #scnonprofit #chsnonprofit #charlestonnonprofit #title1schools #mentalhealthmatters #thrive

Art has the power to heal, inspire, and transform. At Charleston Hope, we’ve seen firsthand how tools like art therapy help children process their emotions, express themselves, and build resilience. Check out our latest blog to learn how parents can harness the power of creativity at home and why art therapy is a lifeline for kids facing life’s challenges. Let’s work together to create a world where every child feels safe, supported, and heard. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/d9y7fmw7

When I was a child going through a traumatic experience, there was very little that felt within my control. Because I was so young, decisions were made for me, words were said for me, and though I was held while I cried, I struggled to find a way to truly process and feel deeply. I was too young to discover a healthy outlet on my own. That changed when someone showed me how to draw and paint my feelings—my experiences, my pain, my healing. Before I knew it, art therapy became the tool I needed to express what my voice couldn’t. It gave me the words I had been searching for and eventually led me to journaling and writing. Oh, how I loved to write—and I still do. This photo is from one of our therapists at Charleston Hope with the caption, "It's an art therapy kind of day." It made me reflect on my own experience with art therapy as a child, and even now as an adult—a practice I’ve carried into my parenting with my own kids. Today, I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity to create pathways for kids to process what they’re experiencing and feeling. Many of these children have endured things we can’t imagine—or perhaps some of us can. I’m grateful to lead an organization that provides diverse approaches to therapy, meets kids where they are, and is changing the way children can process their emotions and heal. I love you Charleston Hope and everyone, from the therapists to the staff to the donors to the supporters!

I am proud of what has been built at Charleston Hope since I was 18 years old. 12 years later, a lot of different paths, and now here we are -- narrowed in and focused on the mission at hand. We're providing mental health therapy and programs to students in our high-poverty schools. The vision -- to see every Title 1 school in the tri-county areas with a strong mental health program. Can you imagine what the generation behind us would look like if every kid had access to the mental health care they need? Join us in the fight to increase mental health access and reduce rates of anxiety, depression and suicide in our youth. https://lnkd.in/ePdd8RaH
