Last night, we were honored to visit the Johns Island Council! We discussed our process for receiving, transporting, and treating landfill leachate, which is high-strength wastewater. #CharlestonWaterConnects Leachate, which is too strong to be taken directly to our Plum Island Wastewater Treatment Plant, is trucked to Pump Station 90 on Murraywood Rd. on Johns Island and mixed in with the community wastewater to be diluted. This supports public health because leachate isn’t released into the environment. We shared how we’ve invested $4 million in the area around PS 90 to reduce the traffic issues associated with the tankers delivering the leachate.?

It’s OK to not always run at 100% capacity! Regular downtime is important for self-care & maintenance. #CharlestonWaterConnects? ? ?? Aeration basins at Plum Island Wastewater Treatment Plant

CWS associates volunteered to support Water Mission! They labeled 1,800 reusable water bottles, which are for 3 schools in City of Asheville that were impacted by Hurricane Helene. Many students don’t have water bottles to fill with safe drinking water to fill up at filtration stations.
