Charitable Healthcare Network supports, educates and advocates for over 70 free and charitable clinic sites across Ohio.
关于我们
Charitable Healthcare Network's purpose (formerly the Ohio Association of Free Clinics) is to be the voice and connector for members by providing resources, education and advocacy to strengthen and ensure high quality health care for people who are vulnerable. The Charitable Healthcare Network is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We do not provide direct health care services on-site, but support those who do and can provide a referral to a health clinic. Free clinic services vary, but may include: primary care, prescription assistance, dental, vision, behavioral health and other specialties. Using cost-effective strategies, such as in-kind services and donations of health care resources and time, free clinics provide for the health care needs of their patients. These strategies mean that every dollar invested in free clinics brings nearly $6.45 in care for patients. Free clinics provide access to care for many who find themselves temporarily unemployed or unable to obtain employer-based health insurance.

CHN Executive Director?Jason Koma testified before the Ohio House Health Committee this week, advocating for increased funding for free clinics and charitable providers in the state budget. The current budget includes a small boost in Free Clinic Safety-Net funding—$3.514M over two years. In 2024 alone, Ohio's free clinics delivered 715,000 healthcare services valued at nearly $225M. CHN is grateful for the support of Gov. DeWine's office, the Ohio Department of Health, and the Ohio General Assembly. We look forward to working with the legislature as the budget process moves forward. We’re proud to partner with the Cardinal Health Foundation to increase access to medications for patients in charitable healthcare organizations through Equity Rx. With a charitable pharmacy in our network, St. Vincent de Paul Charitable Pharmacy, this initiative remotely embeds pharmacists in free clinics to help bridge these gaps, ensuring Ohioans can get critical medications regardless of their circumstances. Thank you to the Cardinal Health Foundation!
Today, Cardinal Health published its Fiscal 2024 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report (https://lnkd.in/gzfJMgMh). Among many other highlights, the report shines a light on Equity Rx, which is designed to increase access to medications for patients of charitable healthcare organizations – patients who otherwise would not be able to afford medications. We piloted Equity Rx in Ohio in partnership with the Charitable Health Network (CHN), the membership organization for this state’s charitable healthcare organizations. The CHN worked with St. Vincent de Paul Charitable Pharmacy (SVDP) in Cincinnati, which in turn fills prescriptions for patients of free clinics in southwest Ohio. SVDP provides the prescriptions at no charge, and delivers them directly to free clinics so patients can pick them up during their visits with their primary care physicians. By the end of fiscal 2024, SVDP had filled more than 22,000 prescriptions to more than 350 patients, and helped avoid $700,000 in healthcare costs. Late last year, we began expanding Equity Rx across the country, partnering with the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics and Pharmacies (NAFC), and are now helping support increased medication access through 10 free and charitable clinics and pharmacies. I am truly grateful to the CHN and the NAFC, as well as their member organizations, for their partnership. And I want to give a special shoutout to Rusty Currington, the vice president of pharmacy at St. Vincent de Paul Charitable Pharmacy. Rusty is deeply committed to increasing access to care for all those in his community, and he is a wonderful advocate for the patients he serves. I hope you’ll read our report to learn more about Rusty and about Equity Rx. Across Ohio, thousands of people in rural communities face severe healthcare shortages, limiting their access to essential medical care. Some must travel across multiple counties just for a short doctor’s visit, while others simply go without. Two recent Columbus Dispatch articles shed light on these critical gaps and the role free and charitable clinics play in bridging them: https://lnkd.in/g2d5VkgG https://lnkd.in/gRESwTz9
