Founded in 2012, ChargeItSpot? products have revolutionized the world of mobile device management, charging, and security. Our intelligent, locker-based kiosk solutions are thoughtfully designed to empower businesses and ground teams alike. The company began when our founder, Douglas Baldasare, recognized the need for secure, self-service phone charging in public spaces. As part of The Wharton School’s venture incubator, he created the first prototype of the ChargeIt kiosk. 10 years later, ChargeIt kiosks had become prominent in nearly every retail center in North America, having helped consumers over 16 million times with free and secure charging for their dying phones, while driving shopper traffic and marketing leads for clients. Along the way, we identified a critical issue facing almost all of our clients: frustration around managing the handheld devices that employees use to be productive. They were experiencing surprisingly high device theft and loss, wasted time managing manual processes, and lost productivity when devices stopped working, went missing, or batteries died. Recognizing the enormous cost and ubiquity of this problem, ChargeItSpot applied the patented technology from its consumer-facing solution to a brand-new enterprise solution for the back of house. In 2021, ChargeItSpot launched ARC?, a centralized device management system designed to secure, charge, and monitor employee devices across various industries. ARC minimizes device theft and loss, actively contributing to increased productivity, reduced wasted payroll time for managers and employees, and a decrease in the number of faulty devices in circulation. Serving some of the largest and most recognized companies in the world, the ChargeItSpot team continues to innovate and empower people to focus on what matters most. The company is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

    In part two of our Summer Interns feature, we highlight Raynel, an Electrical and Computer Engineering student at Temple University, and one of our talented interns at ChargeItSpot. Raynel has taken on a vital role within our team, working as an Electrical Engineering intern. His responsibilities include researching and testing client devices to ensure they are fully compatible with our kiosks. Raynel dives into troubleshooting issues when they arise to find solutions, leveraging his strong problem-solving skills and understanding of device behavior. What Raynel finds most rewarding is knowing that his work directly impacts the company. Every device he helps qualify brings us one step closer to gaining new clients.     CS @ Penn | Seeking 2025 Summer Internship

    I’m so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of ChargeItSpot’s team this summer! From working on development stories and tackling backend code rewrites, to hardware and middleware regression testing, it truly has been a fantastic opportunity to grow both my technical and professional skills. Specifically, I’ve had the chance to learn and work with technologies like SQL, React, and Spring Boot while contributing to impactful projects that were implemented in kiosks across the US and Canada. The hands-on experience and mentorship have far exceeded any expectations I had, and I’ve picked up plenty of life-changing tips along the way—like the critical importance of an ergonomic keyboard and the magic of Rectangle Mac. A massive thank you to the entire ChargeItSpot team, and especially Mark Zeits, Harman S., Gavin Huang, and Nicholas N., for the warm welcome, continuous support, and incredible learning environment. I’ve not only been able to hone my technical skills, but I’ve also gained valuable insights into the entire software development lifecycle and how products evolve in a real-world business setting. (The unlimited espresso and oat milk lattes didn’t hurt either!) I’m so excited to continue my journey with the skills and experience I’ve gained here, and I can’t wait to see what’s next!

In the past few months, ARC has helped the DHL team standardize and optimize the management of their employee devices, ensuring they are consistently available, charged, and documented with minimal effort.     At ChargeItSpot, operational efficiency isn't just a value we deliver to clients; it's a principle we embody in every aspect of our work. This commitment was exemplified in our recently completed rollout with Sam's Club, where our Operations team exceeded all expectations by completing the installation of over 1,200 kiosks across 600 clubs—spanning 45 states and Puerto Rico—a full five weeks ahead of schedule. Partnering with 3PL Brendamour, we meticulously planned and executed this large-scale deployment. Our team worked closely with Sam's Club to create customized installation plans, reviewing floor plans and making strategic recommendations on kiosk placement. The entire process was designed to minimize disruption to Sam's Club operations, requiring minimal involvement from their team while ensuring maximum efficiency on our part. Our approach was as precise as it was flexible. With a dynamic, ±1 day schedule, we maintained the momentum of the rollout, advancing when we were ahead and adjusting swiftly when needed. In the continental U.S., we utilized a "milk run" delivery strategy to further streamline operations, while in Puerto Rico and Hawaii, we managed direct shipments and installations ourselves. Every step of the way, we mitigated risks, such as avoiding installation delays by scheduling deliveries and installations on the same day, and we provided photo verification to ensure the highest quality. Our partnership with Brendamour was a crucial factor in our success. Their truck drivers, who are also trained technicians, became so efficient that they managed both deliveries and installations with remarkable speed and accuracy. Together, we navigated seasonal weather challenges and devised routes that optimized efficiency while meeting our strict deadlines. As Robert Kay, our Senior Vice President of Operations, stated, "Our team's proactive approach and resilience in overcoming field challenges show our commitment to operational excellence. Our partnership with Brendamour during this rollout was instrumental in our success. Their hard work, responsiveness, and adaptability were key factors in the success of this project." Through this rollout, we demonstrated the same operational excellence that we promise to our clients—showcasing our ability to scale, meet demand, and deliver results ahead of schedule.     We are thrilled to feature Kim McLaughlin, our Senior Director of Operations, in this quarter's employee spotlight. Kim has been an integral part of ChargeItSpot since September 2015. Kim plays a pivotal role in multiple critical operations. As the primary project manager for Operations, she oversees kiosk deployments, installation planning, and logistics. We’re highlighting Kim this quarter for her exceptional work in leading the successful rollout of ARC across all Sam's Club locations. This massive project involved deploying 1,198 ARC units in 599 clubs across 45 states and Puerto Rico. Impressively, Kim and her team completed the rollout five weeks ahead of schedule. Our CEO, Doug Baldasare, reflects on Kim and her team’s accomplishment: "We were agile when things came up that needed fixing. We got ahead of problems, making sure issues didn't escalate. No units were damaged in transit. The way we rolled out reflects super well on our company and is a major factor in our growth potential." Kim thrives in our fast-paced, dynamic environment and finds excitement in coordinating multi-faceted projects and working with smart, ambitious colleagues who inspire her to be her best. Outside of work, Kim loves being outdoors, enjoying activities like hiking, camping, running, biking, and water sports. She is passionate about traveling and planning itineraries for road trips and exploring new places. Additionally, Kim is a big music enthusiast, relishing live music and attending concerts. We are proud to have Kim as a key member of our team and look forward to her continued contributions to the company’s success.
