To make Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF CBT) easier for families to access, therapists in Illinois are offering it in schools, libraries, and online. These options mean more families can fit therapy into their lives. Chapin Hall's recent study shows that flexible approaches like these are key to supporting families in addressing #Trauma. Check out our recommendations for making this therapy available to more families in Illinois: https://lnkd.in/g9yv7fcv

关于我们
Chapin Hall has, since its inception in 1985 as a research and policy center, focused on a mission of improving the well-being of children and youth, families, and their communities. We do this through policy research—by developing and testing new ideas, generating and analyzing information, and examining policies, programs, and practices across a wide range of service systems and organizations. Chapin Hall takes a broad perspective, embracing an interest in policies that promote the well-being of all children and youth while devoting special attention to those facing significant problems.

These past ten years, Chief Information Security Officer and Director of Research Technology Alex Cohn has driven major technology and data security improvements at Chapin Hall. His commitment to our vision and mission is reflected in his many accomplishments, including modernizing our infrastructure, expanding our collaboration platforms, and transitioning us from an in-person working environment to a fully remote one. Recently, he and his team rallied colleagues from across the organization and expertly moved us to a secure external data center. Alex's leadership has extended to serving on numerous communities, where he has supported staff in promotions, artificial intelligence, and coding best practices initiatives to name a few. He has developed an incredible team and built an infrastructure that we could not have imagined a decade ago. Happy anniversary, Alex, and thank you! Want to learn more about Alex? Our recent study shows Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF CBT) aligns with many families’ needs, but there are challenges in getting everyone engaged. Barriers like financial issues, past negative experiences, and not fully understanding trauma’s effects can make it harder for families to participate. Caseworkers and therapists need ways to support families in starting and sticking with this #Therapy. Learn more about this work: https://lnkd.in/g9yv7fcv

Did you know over 4 million young Americans face #Homelessness every year? Let's turn missed opportunities for young people into new opportunities -- opportunities to have a safe home, to pour energy into education, work, friendship, and love, and ultimately, build strong futures. Our 14-month collaborative effort with young experts who've experienced homelessness and partners from non-profits and governmental organizations led to the New Opportunities national strategy to prevent and end #YouthHomelessness: https://lnkd.in/g33UFAe7 Explore the strategy and join us as we work toward a future free from youth homelessness. #YouthHomelessnessAwarenessMonth

#ChildWelfare workers want to support children and families well, but many face stress and emotional exhaustion. Chapin Hall’s new study highlights opportunities to strengthen supervisory support and introduce trauma-informed practices in the Illinois child welfare workforce: https://lnkd.in/g6hbvMmM Addressing these needs can reduce turnover and improve the consistency of care children receive. These solutions can help workers feel supported and improve long-term outcomes. #NLP #ML #AI

In a new op-ed in The Imprint, Chapin Hall Senior Research Fellow Amy Dworsky and external co-authors assert that those who have connected the consequences of the Dobbs decision with increased child maltreatment and increased #FosterCare entries are oversimplifying a complex issue: https://lnkd.in/gqNaMQkm They note that national datasets have known limitations related to missing data and there is variability in data state by state – so “apples to apples” comparisons cannot be made. Also, some states have changed policies, including expanding family support programs and initiating alternative response to child maltreatment reports. Finally, there is no evidence that children who are born because their parents were denied an abortion are more likely to be maltreated and thus potentially enter foster care. In fact, the authors say, that could lead to further stigmatization of parents and children. #ChildWellbeing

#CashTransfers help young people experiencing homelessness best meet their needs and pursue goals they value. They are also a powerful tool to address racial inequity, as BIPOC youth are disproportionately impacted by homelessness. But the impacts of cash transfers on a young person's taxes, financial aid, and public benefits like food and housing assistance, are complex. This #YouthHomelessnessAwarenessMonth, check out this policy toolkit that lays out all the implications in one place: https://lnkd.in/gxukADEN
