The cost of renting an apartment or buying a home are too high in Massachusetts. The Healey-Driscoll Administration is working to change that. The state’s first comprehensive housing plan, “A Home for Everyone,” identifies 222,000 homes that need to be built in the next 10 years to pull us out of the housing crisis. But more than just identifying the problem, the plan outlines the best strategies to make Massachusetts a place where families, young people, seniors, our workforce – everyone – can find a home they can afford.?? ? Last week, a group of Horizons families and staff joined Economic Mobility Pathways - EMPath, 2Life Communities, Mass Alliance of HUD Tenants, Citizens' Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA), The Boston Foundation, Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless, Haley House, and First Church of Cambridge at the State House for Cookie Day???, a day of support for the?Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program (MRVP). ? Following the event, attendees met with legislators and distributed house-shaped cookies, a symbolic (and tasty) reminder of the crucial role MRVP plays in providing safe, stable, and affordable housing for nearly 11,000 low-income households across the Commonwealth. ?
