Science is stronger when knowledge is shared rapidly and in the open. Preprints enable researchers everywhere to freely share and build on each other’s work, driving progress forward. That’s why Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory are supporting the launch of openRxiv, a nonprofit dedicated to sustaining bioRxiv and medRxiv—the preprint servers that have transformed how researchers communicate their work.

The Imaging Institute challenged AI/ML developers to solve one of biology's biggest bottlenecks — and they delivered! CryoET can image the biology within intact cells at sub-nanometre resolution, but the images are noisy and low contrast, meaning it can take months to figure out what you’re looking at by hand. The winners of our machine learning challenge created new algorithms to automate this annotation process, bringing us one step closer to understanding the inner workings of our cells at the highest resolution possible. #science #cryoET #biology #imaging #AI
