Champion Celebrates Heritage and Culture in New Orleans! What a fantastic weekend in the French Quarter celebrating the rich traditions of St. Joseph's Day! Our very own Don Gelestino had the incredible honor of riding on a custom-made float in this year's St. Joseph's Day Parade What an amazing tribute to Italian heritage and Louisiana's vibrant culture. The St. Joseph's Day tradition dates back to the Middle Ages when Sicilian farmers prayed to St. Joseph to end a devastating famine. Their prayers were answered, and in gratitude, they built altars filled with handmade cookies, breads, and cakes to share with the community — a tradition that continues across Louisiana today. One of the parade highlights is the club’s famous Lenten dish — a classic Sicilian pasta prepared with anchovies and sardines. This year’s feast featured 1000 pounds of pasta — an incredible show of culinary dedication! A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this weekend unforgettable, including Peter Gilberti, Fred Holley, Mark J. Day 4 of the National Association of Elevator Contractors (NAEC) Spring Conference is a Powerful Finale of Leadership, Learning, and Lasting Connections!!!! The final day of the NAEC Spring Conference was nothing short of inspiring — a day filled with heartfelt stories, impactful education, and meaningful acts of service that perfectly closed out an incredible week. Here's a look back at today's memorable highlights: Lisa Giuffra Diaz from Turf Advisory captivated the audience with her powerful journey of resilience, purpose, and leadership. As an entrepreneur, mother, and breast cancer survivor, Lisa’s message of staying grounded in what truly matters and reminded us all that true leadership is about balance, perseverance, and making a meaningful impact — both in business and in life. Walter Barnes from Electronic Theatre Controls Inc. delivered an eye-opening presentation on the importance of automatic doors in enhancing residential elevator safety. His knowledge of ASME A17.1 Part 5.3 compliance and modern advancements in door technology offered invaluable insights for improving safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction. Industry experts Daniel Newlin and Clif Frazier from Elevated Facility Services delivered a session on recent updates to the National Electrical Code (NEC) and how they impact elevator safety standards. Their clear, detailed explanation of code changes provided attendees with the tools to stay compliant and ensure top-notch safety practices. This is what Champions are all about!!!!!!?The spirit of giving back was in full force as volunteers gathered for a meaningful Beach Clean-Up at Hilton Head, sponsored by NexGen. Together, industry professionals united to help protect marine life, preserve the coastline, and raise awareness about environmental conservation. It was heartwarming to see so many hands working together to leave a positive mark on the beautiful island. The week concluded with the unforgettable Dregs Party at the stunning Grand Ocean Terrace. It’s clear that AI is becoming a game-changer in our field! Brittany Brothers of LiftLogic Advising captivated the audience with actionable strategies to build stronger relationships with architects. Her valuable insights on improving collaboration and ensuring elevator products are specified in building projects were incredibly useful for contractors, consultants, and suppliers alike. Sean Madden shared his wealth of knowledge on optimizing financial structures using effective Charts of Accounts (COAs). His practical tips for aligning financial strategies with industry standards will undoubtedly help many businesses make smarter decisions and improve sustainability. Carlos Escobar and Peter McIntosh from Hyperion Solutions led a highly informative session on the critical factors influencing hoist rope and drive sheave wear. Attendees gained valuable insights into metallurgy, groove profiles, and the vital role sheave diameter plays in system longevity — knowledge that’s crucial for maintaining safe and efficient elevator systems.
