AI explainability is more important than ever—especially in legal tech. I recently had the pleasure of joining a thought-provoking webinar on AI Explainability and Its Immediate Impact on Legal Tech, led by Prof. Shlomit Yanisky-Ravid. We explored how transparent AI systems can drive better decision-making and compliance in the legal industry. A big thank you to Dror Simsolo and Shlomit Yanisky-Ravid for the invitation! COO & Co-Founder | Building tech for AI-Driven legal teams

Just read the 2025 ACC CLO Survey and noticed an interesting pattern in responses to "Are you planning on adopting any new legal technology solutions in your department to improve efficiency in the next 12 months?" Assuming most respondents participate year after year, here's what caught my attention: - 41-45% consistently say they're planning to invest in technology - 14-19% say they're not planning to invest because they "recently adopted" technology On the face of it, if 41% in 2023 planned to invest in 2024, shouldn't we see more than 14% reporting recent adoption in 2024? I see two complementary explanations: 1. Continuous Investment – Legal departments are modernizing their tech stack in sequence. The 41-45% "planning" includes both fresh starts and continued modernization (evidenced by 62% interest in contract management, 32% in document management, etc.). The 14-19% who recently adopted are taking a natural pause after implementation. 2. Budget Cycle Reality – The 14-19% reporting recent adoption likely reflects departments who've exhausted their tech budget. While wish lists remain long, budget constraints force prioritization, explaining the steady planning numbers alongside post-implementation pauses. A third possibility - failed execution - seems unlikely given the clear technology prioritization and declining interest in mature solutions (e.g., 7-point drop in eSignature). The data suggests legal departments are taking a measured approach to modernization, balancing ambition with practical realities. However, this careful pacing might accelerate soon - when asked about specific technologies they plan to adopt, 16% of CLOs wrote in 'Generative AI' even though it wasn't one of the 15 options provided. This strong interest in GenAI, despite it not being a predefined choice, signals we might see a shift in these measured adoption patterns. Thoughts?

Lately I've been having lots of conversations with legal leaders about AI Use Policies. Many have either implemented one already or are in the process of creating one. Since AI governance is such new territory, quite a few teams are looking for guidance on drafting these policies. To help make this easier, we at Chamelio created a practical framework with a template policy and clear guidance for in-house legal teams. ?? Download our framework in the first comment below!

COO & Co-Founder | Building tech for AI-Driven legal teams

The Legal Team of 2030: Insights from the World Economic Forum Two weeks ago, I wrote about the transformation of legal departments from pyramids to diamonds. The World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report (2025) provides thought provoking data about how this evolution might unfold. The Scale of Change: By 2030, we'll see 170M new jobs created and 92M displaced - representing a 22% churn of the formal labor market. This will significantly impact the legal space, given the expected decline in traditional lawyer roles versus the explosive growth in positions such as process automation specialists and data scientists. The data shows that work tasks performed by humans will decline by 15%, with 82% of this shift attributed to automation and 18% to human-machine collaboration. More specifically, skills such as manual dexterity, endurance, precision, reading, and writing, which are the essence of legal work, are expected to diminish in relevance as AI automate them. This emphasizes the urgent need for reskilling and upskilling strategies amongst in-house lawyers. While it's impossible to predict exactly what roles will emerge, here are some positions I believe we might see in future legal departments, combining legal expertise with AI proficiency: ? Legal AI Specialists - lawyers who specialize in operating and optimizing legal AI tools, ensuring accurate and compliant outputs ? Legal Knowledge Architects - experts who structure legal data and knowledge to train AI systems? ? ? AI Risk & Ethics Counsel - specialists who assess AI implementation risks and ensure ethical use of AI ? ? Legal Process Automation Strategists - lawyers who identify automation opportunities and design AI-enabled legal workflows ? ? AI-Human Collaboration Managers - professionals who optimize the interaction between legal teams and AI tools With 86% of employers preparing for AI transformation by 2030 it is clear that we are in the midst of one of the largest transformations of the global workforce in history. I believe that successful legal departments will evolve into three complementary layers working in harmony: ? AI/Tech Specialists: Legal ops, automation engineers, data analysts ? ? Traditional Legal Experts: Strategic advisors, risk specialists ? Hybrid Roles: Legal project managers, knowledge engineers The transformation has already begun. Its super exciting to be part of it and see how it will eventually unfold.
