Don’t seek interview feedback. Getting feedback from an employer who rejected you is like getting feedback from an ex who didn’t appreciate you. And when you incorporate that feedback into your next interview? You’ve contorted yourself to be acceptable to people who rejected you…instead of appealing to people who accept you as you are. Interview feedback is a dangerous game. The best strategy is to be the best “YOU” you can be … and find people who accept you. Look, sometimes you need to land something fast. I get that. …but if you contort yourself to meet some unattainable standard set by someone who rejected you, instead of finding a company who wants you as you are, just know that you’ll soon be unhappy if you do succeed in twisting yourself into the pretzel they want you to be. To be the best YOU you can be, get my InterviewPowerfully.com resource to position yourself in the best light possible. I believe in you. Lisa

  • Struggling to talk about your achievements in an interview? You’re not alone. Many job seekers tell me they feel?cheesy?or like they’re bragging. But here’s the thing—if you don’t highlight your impact, who will? I recommend using one of these two formats: ?CAR Format?– Challenge, Action, Result ? ?STAR Format?– Situation, Task, Action, Result Both work, but I prefer CAR—feels more dynamic! The key? Write out your stories, then practice saying them?naturally. You want to sound confident, not scripted. Want to master your interview storytelling??Dive into?InterviewPowerfully.com?for my step-by-step eBook! #JobInterview #InterviewTips #CareerGrowth

My dad never bounced back from a layoff when I was a kid. He worked for RCA Records as a sound technician for most of the 1970s. ??. He had a cool job that he was proud of… He did sound tech work for big names at the time, like Helen Reddy, Evelyn “Champagne” King, Shalamar, David Bowie, Charley Pride, John Denver, and many others. And then, in 1979, he was laid off. He never landed another sound tech job again. ?? Why? In hindsight, he was petrified to interview. Hated selling himself. And don’t forget, in the late 70s, people worked at a company for 35 years and then retired with the gold watch. So a layoff was extra devastating for people back then. He viewed being out of work as people would think he was “less than” or a failure….so he would never put himself out there. ??? He would only pursue leads that came to him versus going out and finding opportunities. Well, my family was made up of Italian immigrants on one side and Irish laborers on the other side. No one had connections in the record or entertainment business. ??♀? And my dad didn’t “network” at the time…it’s not something blue-collar/working-class people knew how to do. So he responded to job leads given to him by our immigrant/blue-collar family. The jobs my dad went on to have after his beloved RCA job were: ?? Assembly line foreman at a paper box factory ?? Assembly line foreman at a garden hose factory ?? And eventually, a postal worker, where he worked until he retired. He was underemployed his entire life despite being super smart—graduating high school at 16. And he was professionally frustrated until the day he retired. Interview trauma is real. Layoff trauma is real. ?? But you can get help nowadays. I do what I do for a reason—to help people bounce back or avoid a situation to bounce back from in the first place! This could’ve helped my dad: https://lnkd.in/ge5FwiKp Know anyone who’s been through this too? What happened? #interview #career #executiveresume #jobsearch #leadership

Interviewing as an executive is an experience most new executives don’t have. And even experienced executives often take these two points I mention in the video for granted. Once you watch the just-over-4-minute video, tell me if you knew these points…(you can DM me like you normally do if you don’t want to out yourself…) And if you want more guidance, go to InterviewPowerfully.com for more resources. Don’t interview as an executive assuming it’s the same interview you have always done. You will see an executive interview is different. #executiveinterview #interview

  • Having a current position helps recruiters find you more readily…

Why executive recruiters may not find you on LinkedIn ???????? LinkedIn allows recruiters who subscribe to its LinkedIn Recruiter subscription to search on candidates based on their current title or current company. See the search options LinkedIn Recruiter offers in the screenshots provided to me by recruiter/recruiter trainer Gabi Preston-Phypers and Steve Levy below: So LinkedIn Recruiter allows recruiters to search on Current Titles and Current Companies…so…at risk of sounding redundant, if you don’t have a current position, you can’t get included in this search result. Now you may use a LinkedIn current position to: —keyword optimize solely for a role you are targeting —promote a solopreneurship consulting company you have set up outlining your consulting clients —share your freelancing capabilities highlighting the recent gigs you have landed Everyone is different. The right path for you may be different than the right path for someone else. And what was appropriate for you 3 years ago may not be the most suitable option for you today. The point of this email is not to provide custom advice. But instead, educate you on the tools being used to sort through candidates so you can job search more effectively. So please ?? reshare to help job seekers! TY… Gabi and Steve Levy recently reconfirmed this long time premise I’ve held that job seekers need a recent position on their profiles. Kevin D. Turner (LinkedIn guru who helped me through hi my LinkedIn hack a couple of weeks ago) confirmed this for me in March 2022. I’ve been researching and confirming how candidates show up in search tools since my first article in 2016 titled “LinkedIn Recruiter: 12 Insider Secrets You Need to Know For Your Job Search.” So if you want to discover how to write your LinkedIn profile for landing 6-figure job interviews, then join me in my next live (also free) session tomorrow, March 11th at 12noonET. Go to LiveExecLinkedInTraining . com and grab your zoom link for the call tomorrow. We don’t record them…you must be there live. So let’s do this!
