It’s common for important government figureheads to receive world-class security teams. They're typically funded through taxpayer dollars and help ensure principals are safe during transit and public outings. But sometimes, nongovernmental individuals also receive this type of elevated protection for political and strategic reasons. Such is the case for SpaceX Founder Elon Musk and his executive protection detail. Sources familiar with the situation claim the US Marshals Service recently deputized his protectors, giving them enhanced law enforcement authority. Blackmail and Extortion are never right. However, this new form of the old Method of Operation (MO) is particularly troubling. Online blackmail resulting in suicide (called Sextortion) is on the rise. Teens, in particular, are targeted by sophisticated criminals who pass themselves off as other teens. However, adults are not exempt from this MO.?https://lnkd.in/gQYn2Eig These criminals approach using flirtation and groom the target, building trust and manipulating the target into sending sexually explicit photos over the internet or cell phone. These organized criminals do their homework, learn the names of the target’s friends and family, and then use this information to extort money from the target after receiving the pictures. Threats of shame, ruin, arrest, and a lifetime of being on a Sexual Predator list are all claims the criminals make to gain money from the targets. Suicides from these attempts of extortion happen as soon as 30 minutes after the first demand. The article at the link above describes the situation in detail. These teenage boys were blackmailed online – and it cost them their lives. Chameleon believes awareness is the best weapon against these criminals. We believe frank and open conversations with teens and adults are the best forms of prevention in these types of cases.
