Ahead of Chamber Music America's 2025 National Conference in Houston, Texas, CMA engaged area musicians and residents for a creative placemaking initiative, "Sounds of Houston." This unique project, led by Sounds That Carry's Renate Rohlfing and Olivia Cosío, with support from The Wallace Foundation, paired local musicians with narrators to develop sonic memoirs, chronicling life in Houston and focusing on the human impacts of climate change. This is an excerpt of "An Ongoing Fight," a sonic memoir composed by Aris Kian Brown with narration by Tangi Smith. Listen to the full piece at the link below. https://lnkd.in/ebVVtDBu

Did we just make chamber music history? Chamber Music America's?2025 National Conference?in Houston was nothing short of legendary. From our electrifying?Night of Jazz?at the historic Eldorado Ballroom at Project Row Houses,?to an?epic 12-hour Chamber Music Festival, this gathering was framed around what matters most - artists, ensembles, and music-making. More than?150 world-class musicians from over 40 states?filled every space at the Shepherd School of Music with unforgettable performances, transforming the Conference into a?true festival. From the complete?Brandenburg Concertos with the Associated Chamber Music Players,?to the star-studded Fischoff National Chamber Music Association?Gala at Stude Concert Hall, the music never stopped. And neither did the inspiration. Mornings began with community play-ins, days were filled with thought-provoking?sessions, master classes, and roundtables, and evenings culminated in breathtaking performances that reminded us why we do this work.?J. Kenji López-Alt’s?Keynote Address and the?CMA Awards Luncheon?were unforgettable moments of celebration and reflection. The energy. The connections. The sheer artistry.?Everything exceeded expectations. And the response from our attendees has been overwhelming: "This is the best Conference CMA has ever produced." This moment wouldn’t have been possible without the vision, dedication, and passion of so many.?Thank you?to Matthew Loden?and the The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, the artists, ensembles, speakers, panelists, sponsors, partners, CMA staff, board, and volunteers?who made this event truly historic. And to our incredible community - you are the reason we do this. How can we possibly follow such an unforgettable experience? Challenge accepted: from Houston to the Heartland, we’ll see you in CHICAGO, August 20–23, 2026! #cma #grateful #chambermusichistory
