The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is governed by a seven-member board of trustees which is responsible for all policy decisions. Board members are elected from trustee areas by the registered voters of nine communities: Castro Valley, Dublin, Hayward, Livermore, Pleasanton, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Sunol and Union City.

Last week, we wrapped four days in Washington, D.C. at the Association of Community College Trustees National Legislative Summit. It was an opportunity to advocate directly with Senator Alex Padilla and Senator Adam Schiff and come together with community colleges from across the state to show we have power in numbers as we seek to support our students.
Our district greatly appreciated the time we had with Rep. Eric Swalwell last week in Washington, D.C. This was an important opportunity for our student representatives from both colleges to share the challenges and successes of their student journey.
Last week, Rep. Mark DeSaulnier addressed the CA delegation of community colleges while we were in Washington, D.C. attending the Association of Community College Trustees National Legislative Summit. Rep. DeSaulnier and his staff also received our district's delegation to hear directly from our student trustee and learn about our district's current accomplishments and concerns.
We look forward to the impact this partnership will have for our students and our region.

About last night..... I am honored and humbled to receive the Pioneer Award from the 100 Black Men Of The Bay Area, Inc. The Pioneer Award is an award given to recognize people who have made significant contributions to their community. In the beautiful atmosphere of the Chabot Science Center, I was recognized with 4 other outstanding honorees: Paul David Henderson, Ay’Anna Moody, Kedrick Armstrong, and Doug Davis. I thank every student that I have taught, coached, and mentored through the years. I thank Chabot College for allowing me to be their leader. I especially thank my family for their support and love throughout my journey. And I thank the 100 Black Men for being a ray of light for our young people, the community and for acknowledging me for this award. I look forward to supporting more events by the organization. The program encourages and supports student-parents to go back to college to pursue their educational goals. These students participate in taking courses towards an early childhood development certificate.
