CGH Medical Center is a progressive acute care facility located in the Rock River Valley region of Northern Illinois. Since opening in 1909, CGH has earned a strong reputation throughout the region and consistently receives high ratings for positive public awareness and patient satisfaction. CGH Medical Center is committed to meeting expanding patient needs and to providing leadership in the field of healthcare. Inpatient services include a 36-bed medical unit, a 29-bed surgical unit, 10 birthing center suites, 6 pediatric beds, and 18 CCU/ICU/Biotelemetry beds. Outpatient services include a state-of-the-art Cath Lab and CAP accredited laboratory. Inpatient and outpatient diagnostic imaging services include a 64-ring CT scanner, nuclear medicine with SPECT scanning, ultrasound, digital mammography and high field MRI. Other departments and services include a neurology laboratory, a GI laboratory and nutritional support, pain management, pharmacy, and respiratory therapy. In addition, CGH offers an ambulatory surgical center, a Digestive Disease Center, physical and occupational therapy, a diabetic education department, a wound care center, pre-hospital paramedic level EMS, and a 24-hour trauma ready emergency department. History was recently made at CGH when Dr. Shawn Hanlon and Josh Wade, PA-C, MS (Orthopaedic Surgery), performed the first CGH robotic arm-assisted total knee replacement with the Stryker Mako Robotic Arm! CGH is the only Sauk Valley area hospital to offer Mako SmartRobotics for Total Knee Replacement. This advancement in joint surgery transforms the way total knee replacements are performed. Dr. Jeffrey Thormeyer, FAAOS, will also perform this procedure. Mako SmartRobotics’ 3D CT-based planning - coupled with AccuStop haptic technology - helps surgeons plan for better outcomes, like less pain and quicker recovery times. “With Mako SmartRobotics for Total Knee Replacement, I know more about my patients than ever before, and I’m able to cut less. For some patients, this can mean less soft tissue damage; for others, greater bone preservation,” said Dr. Hanlon. “Mako’s 3D CT allows me to create a personalized plan based on each patient’s unique anatomy all before entering the operating room. If you are accepted into a nursing program or healthcare professional field of study and have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA, you may qualify for one of the 11 available scholarships!
