关于我们
SINCE 1985, CARE FOR THE HOMELESS (CFH) HAS MET THE MEDICAL, MENTAL, AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CARE NEEDS OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS IN NEW YORK CITY. We currently operate NYS licensed health care centers at 24 sites throughout Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens and have plans to open more throughout 2019 and 2020. Most of our service sites are co-located at facilities operated by other non-profits and include shelters for single adults and families as well as assessment centers and soup kitchens. Additionally, our community-based health center model brings services directly to neighborhoods where the need is most significant. Both models reduce barriers homeless New Yorkers regularly face in an increasingly complex health care system and increases access to high quality care. All services are always provided, regardless of an individual’s ability to pay. ALL SERVICES ARE ALWAYS PROVIDED, REGARDLESS OF AN INDIVIDUAL’S ABILITY TO PAY. In 2008, we launched our shelter services program with the opening of Susan’s Place. The 200-bed transitional shelter houses women who are mentally ill or medically frail, and is located in the Bronx. In 2019, we’re opening a second women’s shelter in Manhattan, where we will continue to help more women move out of shelter and into stable, permanent housing. In conjunction with our work in health care and shelter, we actively advocate for government policies aimed at the construction of more affordable housing and the creating of better health policy. Homelessness carries an ugly stigma. It is often viewed as a characteristic, something that cannot be altered, when it’s truly a condition. Conditions are treatable. Our accessible co-location and community-based health care models provide these essential treatments, working as a catalyst to break the cycle and alter the perceptions of homelessness.

Today, we are learning from these brilliant panelists at the Care For the Homeless #CFHPOLICY2024 conference called: National vs. Local #Homelessness Policy. They have emphasized the importance of staying in the fight! We need to stand united as advocates, service providers, and as state and local agencies to PROTECT federal funding and other resources for #supportivehousing #SNAP #healthcare #behavioralhealth and other services to address the #opioidcrisis, as all of these impact #homelessness. Tierra Labrada: "We can't only care for people when they become homeless! We have to start earlier on to PREVENT homelessness. We also need to fund and expand housing choice vouchers."

New York State Assembly Member Tony Simone, joins a check presentation, hosted by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, awarding Care For the Homeless (CFH) a $600,000 grant to support the expansion of its "Bronx Health Reach Initiative.” CFH has a citywide network of 25 healthcare delivery locations across all five boroughs. This initiative addresses mental health and substance use disorders in the South Bronx's homeless population. This funding underscores Anthem's commitment to addressing social determinants of health and fostering whole-community well-being. For nearly four decades, CFH has delivered high-quality medical and behavioral health services to thousands of homeless individuals and families.

I’m excited to share that yesterday, the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation awarded a $600,000 grant to Care For the Homeless (CFH) to expand their Bronx Health Reach Initiative.?As I often emphasize, the mental health and substance use disorder crisis affecting the homeless community deserves urgent and sustained support. This grant will enable?CFH?to expand critical services and ensure access to much-needed treatment for vulnerable populations. Thank you to the dedicated team at Care For the Homeless for your incredible work.?In 2023 alone, you successfully provided trauma-informed services to over 11,000 individuals in New York City, reflecting a remarkable 15% increase from the previous year, and I can't wait to see all that you continue to do.?Together, we can create meaningful change in our communities!?
